Image and sharing thread - Sigma 120-300 OS HSM Sports

Thru B&H, the Sigma 105mm UV DG Filter is US$98 before shipping.

Hello fellow Sigma sport user.

I just got mine 2 days ago, brought it to Paris ris for birding yesterday.

My IQ is really not up to the standard im seeing from this thread, or even up to standard at all.

Im a M43 user, just move to Canon, and Sigma sport lens because of this thread. haha.

So Im very new to this, I tried my 7d on my brother in law 300mm L f2.8 and its IQ is great.

So i think its not the camera.

What should I do?

I bought it in Singapore, local set.

hmmm if u bought local, can try bringing back for exchange or perhaps the lens needs calibration against your 7D? is it front or back focusing consistently.

this lens is an heavy lens as well, you need to be sure you are used to handling it and shooting technique is trained for this weight too.

any samples to post for comparison?

You may want to post a photo with the exif data. With that, we can help to analyze the problem.

From what I have read, the newer Sport, Art and Contemporary series have undergone stricter QC control to combat the notorious front/back processing that Sigma used to have. Both my Sport and Art (35mm) produce sharp images without the need to body AFMA or calibrate using the USB dock. That is one reason that the USB dock that I have purchased a couple of months ago is still in its box, remains unopened.

Personally I feel that the chance of a lemon set is pretty low. Probably u need to meet Obelix and Ricleo for some professional advise..haha
It's still better to post some images for the pro users to analyse with EXIF info..if u have photos taken with both the prime and zoom on the same subject and emvorinment would be even better..
Anyway, I guess u are Gene's bro-in-law?

Corrections:
Ric & Turbonetics are pro. They shoot lots of wildlife pics. I am still a newbie - weekend shooter with 1.5 years of mileage only. Haha......

I was thinking of going through the B&H route too for the sigma. But shipping was already like $40-50. Vpost seemed a little too troublesome to me too hehe to save $20 on postage.

I would like to suggest 15th September 2013 Sunday afternoon for an outing to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves. Is the date ok for you guys?

I got a comgateway account which I uses very often and am a premier member (more discounts on shipping). For the filter, shipping costs about $10. I thought of ordering the Sigma 105mm CPL. Anybody keen for a piggy back order? Might be able to save alot on shipping though.

I am "IN". This will be my first wildlife shooting encounter.

Tide on 15th is not so ideal for the 2 main reasons;
high in the morning and low at bout 1.30pm. The tide is also not low enough for waders to come closer into the 'killzone'.
Weekend crowd.

And i might not be able to make it on 15th coz i have a morning activity and may be flying off at night...

Hi, i am curious;
-did u shoot handheld or?
-how far was your sudject?

My experience is mostly handheld and i find the zoom ring sometimes causes my pictures to be blur...and,i was quite fedup with the OS that i later shot them without...and your body settings probably need some reviewing too.

icic hmmm not sure how often I will use a CPL with the sigma though hehe....

Guys,i dont know about you,but when i had my 150-500 with CPL,not a B+W, there were distortion from 300+mm. I know the optics are different but using CPL on telezoom may not be a good idea..but i may be wrong with a good filter.

yay!

finally got a bag that can fit the 1DX + 300mm with 2X TC attached comfortably. Got a lowepro flipside 400AW. found the fit to be a little too tight for the combo. sold it and got the flipside 500AW.

Other stuff in the bag. 6D, 135L, 100L, 24-105, sigma 35, 1.4X ii, 16.35L

tada!
