Hi CS Tan,

looking at price.com.hk, i noticed under some shop's price there is a little green box under the price that indicates a slightly lower price with the words 享有購物保障. I guess the words mean "shop warranty is provided" but in what way can we get the lower price indicated in the box?

I don't think it is shop warranty, I believe price.com.hk just promise to help settle any disputes with the shops that was transacted through their website. This also serves as a point system to rate their advertisers.

Which shop you will recommend for getting a Benro or Sirui Tripod.
Considering to get Benro C-168M8 with B-0 Ballhead and a tripod beg. Do u know roughtly how much there?

Sirui tripod is quite popular in HK. You should be able to find them almost everywhere.

However, I am not familiar with Benro but I recalled Sinned79 has visited the Benro distributor in HK. By looking at the photo he provided below, there is an address next to the shop which read "220 Cheung Sha Wan Road Shop A" which is around Sham Shui Po. Google map link HERE.

When buying gray sets, check with them if there is a shop warranty and the length of the period. If there is really a problem afterward and the repair cost is high, it might be worth the trouble to send back to them and pay the return S&H charges. when dealing with the shops, always check with them their 1-to-1 exchange period, in HK, it is around 7-20 days.

From comments from other forumers, Sirui tripod is not worth the trouble as some of the HK price are actually higher than SG price.

I do think the lenses and flashes are still cheaper in HK but with Canon implementing local warranty and remove the international warranty, it makes the HK trip less attractive for the Canon users.

The difference will really show when you compare the more expensive lenses. With strong SG$ at over 1S$ to HK$6, that is the extra incentive to get your stuff here in HK.

i'm going to hk in feb and i'm actually planning to get a canon 5dmk2 body until i read from this thread regarding the international wty for canon gears has been changed to hk local wty. so i got a silly question here which i would appreciate if i could get some opinions from u guys.

if this is the current prices for the 5dmk2 body, which 1 would u get? or if u have a better alternative, please advise. thank u.

tin cheung: sgd $2800++ (hk wty), as gd as no warranty.
ddelectronics: sgd $3000++ (local shop wty), if top up another sgd $125, will get an extended 3 yrs wty

For camera bodies, there was no international warranty all along (for both Nikon and Canon). As for the policy change, we are talking about Canon lenses and flashes. Before Oct 2010, you can get the HK local set (lenses and flashes) which will include international warranty but after that date, the new stock will only include HK/China warranty from HK local sets.

As for whether to go for Tin Cheung or DDElectronics, it is entirely your call.

There is always a risk certain shop might go out of business and your shop warranty will go with it. For HK local warranty, at least you know Canon HK is not as easy to go out of business and you have an option to send it back for repair if you really have no other choice.

I guess you also have to factor in the cost of airfares & hotels stay as well. Touch wood if the set you purchase is a lemon. If you are looking for 5DM2 body only, I believe you don't have to go all the way to HKG and buy and also from DD Electronics. SLR Revolution is selling the body at $3163 cash incl GST plus local Canon warranty. If not, find a 2nd hand 5DM2 from B&S, if you get find a low SC and good conditions, that will be a added bonus.

Seems like the gray sets are only selling around HK$3,200 and the local set are going for around HK$4,000

Are you coming over to HK in the near future? If so, I would suggest you make a visit to Mongkok area. Wing Shing should be a good starting point as they usually provide a very competitive price. You can then use that and ask around in shops such as Cam2, Citicall (Suning), Fortress, Broadway, etc... B005 is a very popular lens in HK, more so than SG so you won't have problem finding them in most shops here.

Do note the difference between HK local set and gray set. You can exchange the 3-yr HK local set warranty into a 1-yr international warranty. However, if you go for the gray set, the warranty usually is being cover by the shop warranty only. For Tamron, I would suggest paying a bit more and get the HK local set and ask the shop to exchange the 3-yr local warranty to the 1-yr international warranty. However, if you find the price difference too attractive, you can consider taking the risk and save a quite bit (~HK$800).

I thank you for your kind advise. I will be in HK every fortnight to meet my clients and oversee my projects there. I will be in HK from 28th Jan to 1st feb, back home just in time for CNY. Actually this trip, I will be purchasing a canon 60d and the Tammy 17-50 lens as I just sold off my starter kit. I will take your kind advice and go for those with warranty.

If possible, allow me to treat you to a drink when I am in HK. There is much fro me to learn from you. Hope to see you in the near future.
