so room light whether tungsten or fluorescent makes no diff right?since it's 5 stops under.

from your pics, can i assume your main light is on your left since boy is facing left?so fill is on your right?and fill is how many stops under wrt main?

yes, 5 stops under make no different with any type of light source.

yes, you are right, the fill is at the half power of the main, so is 1:2 ratio lighting, well, for this type of shoot, capture right expression is far more important than anything, placement of light has to be general for shooting with kids.

Overtime the connections will loosen mah. Just like your earphones to mp3 player. Imagine twisting it around the entire day. After all when you shoot, it's unlikely that your camera stay still for the entire duration.

I went to a university in the United States to study photography. No big deal. Just another piece of paper to decorate my bare wall.

oh, got people tell me b4 in this thread.can use the cord lah.no need wireless....yet.

if you shooting still life mainly, cord is fine,
but if you shooting moving subjects like people, one day someone will trip over the cord and bring down your lights or the camera.

Go with the flow of nature. Don't try to run while you are still learning how to crawl.

More of a camera limitation issue...

High speed flash sync may be helpful on this....

Studio strobes cannot do High speed sync.

btw, all studio light are manual power, no auto, no ttl

i love studio photography...i really wished there are 8 days in a week and i'll dedicate one full day per week to learn about studio.

sigh...but time and tide really waits for no man...nor woman.:cry:

Bulbs blow over a period of time - the more you use it, the life gets shorter with each fire

Hi, I find that studio equipment usually are rather depreciative, meaning the more expensive strobes you buy, the more you lose. So if you are not intending to shoot on a full time basis, its actually better to stick with the cheaper brands. Afterall selling off 5k worth of "cheap" equipment at 1/2 price, you will lose less than selling off similar high end equipment worth 20k at 1/2 price.

I do agree on this. Now digital age, every stuff tend to depreciate much more faster. New technology come out all the time. If not going to full time, no point to get the expensive one and sell at cheap price at the end. I lost 1k plus last few month after sold off my D70, 80-200, 50 f1.8, SB600 after 1 year used.

Just get the reasonable set which can do the job can liao.

There aren't any specific ways to light backdrops, though popular methods are direct flash with a wide reflector, with grids etc.
