Can always do location shoots mah. Studio shoots are pretty boring unless you have a strong concept to back it.

i've been doing so many location shoots.
but what i really interested is studio ...currently....until i get tired of it.
what's nice is the privacy of own home, moreover got aircon.
outdoor hor...makeup melt lei...

u bored means you expert liao.shoot until xian.that's why.
dont forget me super new to studio.

i've been considering how many lights to get as i maybe buying them soon.

so, assuming i shoot a max of 2 subjects, and would love to try high and low key portraits in the near future, just HOW many strobes will i need?

would love to hear from you pro's out there.

any advice appreciated.

two lights also can,

how many sun you have? one right?
so one light is possible, not just place the light at the same as camera angle.

you need to know how to place the one and only light able to create dimensions on the subjects, light the background behind the subjects, and provide enough light for the reflector to have the fill for the subjects.

sun is beri powderful leh... from top down, can still reflect from sand, water etc...

flash can only do so much... u can lite up the entire room with something like 'the sun' but u cannot light up the universe with a flash...

unless u suggest she get a 10000W (provided her mains dun burst) flash with a super big octagon softbox...

agreed with ortege, yes, the color temp will be slight difference

kicker light is for you to kick and trip over

That's funny,
anyway, kicker light is work almost the same as hair light, but is accent on the side of the subject mainly, separate the subject from the background, some use on the same side of the key light, some use opposite side of the key light, eg, key light come from the left, add kicker light on the left side of the subjects too, (same side)

Yes the colour temp will be diff.

Bowens lights, especially the prolite series, are more warm and the lights are hursher ie: easier to get washed out highlight. A fair bit of studio lightings expericence is required to control the lights. It's a very good light to use for product shots. The pro series is also more lasting and can take some rough handling, very much like a work horse. I've got Bowens with slight dents on the housings and reflectors but the lights are working fine.

For Elinchrome, the lights are slightly cooler and the lights are softer which makes it easier to control and manage. If you're shooting more models than products shots, the Elinchrome will suit you better. With proper control, it can perform as well as the Bowen for product shots. Elinchrome are lighter and more compact but the brake down rate is higher than Bowen.
