KelvinDestiny you wrote "who knows the real seller is the father then cook up a story".

that was what i was thinking as well. :) anyway it's just a guess. hope the seller explains himself here. he should really offer a refund as an option.

it looks like lens separation to me. the cement is starting to fail .

bright light.=)[/QUOTE]

there seems to be some dent marks on the outer ring between 1 to 2pm. I suspect might have dropped on the floor directly and the white stuff might be the bonding matter that is flaking/ cracked. Does not seem like fungus.

Either way, if this is worth an 8 or a 9, my lens will be 11.

that doesn't look like fungus... seen a few and never seen one growing right out front...

used to had an old sigma lens... oso got similar white streak.. but not so flaky... and like some of the other CS-ers mention, it might just be bonding matters.

so is this a GG ... if its a crack

where got so easy GG

as long u confirm its not fungus.
and that it doesn't affect ur photos.

whats so GG about it?

only can treat it as a lesson well learnt ;o

Bro, I also brought a EF70-200 f4 USM from this guy and same he ask his father to deliver the len. Luckliy it was board daylight and I found only some 'white elephand' but using my cam it did not show up on the image.Luckliy I do not see any fungus growing inside, the only problem is he told me the len is a UV but actaully is a UU!Damn!!

The father again...these two cases look so similar:think:

Either way, best to get it looked at, and get the problem fixed.

Lesson learnt and move on.

looks like fungus.... why dont you send it down to the service centre to confirm?

Got a noob question here.

If the lense os whether sealed like the l lense and certain nikon high end lenses. Will fungus grow inside your lense?

And if the we go to cold places will the lence develope water vapour inside the lense?

Since fungus normally account from moisture. Rite?

Tq

No lens is 100%.. Air need to move in and out when element moved. Seal is only refer to weather seal. i.e. certain degree of protection against element like light drizzle.

Weather sealed doesn't mean it is air tight.

Try submerging your L lens or weather sealed lens into a bucket full of water for 5 mins. See if the water goes into the lens. ;)

alright... i will get it check tommorrow... just be careful when dealing with people...

Doesn't look like fungus

Weekdays, I passby cityhall around 7pm, no obligation, just help you check.
A bit difficult to judge based on the picture

We should do a poll!

Not that we want to ride on out bro's misfortune, but we're really curious to see what it is.

1) Many say it's fungus
2) One it's a possible lens manufacturing fault
3) Another it's lens separation
4) Says it's a dropped floor issue (also lens separation but of a different cause)

more like glass cement/glue that come off. It should not affect your image quality.

But the consensus is:

There is definitely something wrong with the lens, even if it is a manufacturing fault. ;)
