Having Fun with Shooting Film

Very nice, little india " F4 " the brotherhood.
like to see your street shooting, ppl in there are so natural.

Thanks Lawrence for the comments. Didn't get back to this thread until now ...

That boy on the left looks like a 'mixed blood', so cute!
That man with a beanie has a lot of facial expression, a pity the background is a little washed out.:(
Fuji Reala 100 seems very appropriate to use in the colourful india.

Yeah, I really love Reala film. Just bought another 10 rolls, should be enough for me to shoot for a year :)

Got chance to test a Pentax SMC A16/2.8 fisheye lens on film over the past Christmas weekend, quite like the FOV and curved effect. Here are some of the reala 100 I took w/ LX:

This is from our front window:

A couple more shots from outside the mall:

And these are from inside the shopping mall, most time the speed I could get was slower than 1/10s because of the slow film:

A couple more from inside Vivo City:

The A16 lens can focus pretty close, as close as 20cm. I was qutie surprised when I got the following results (
All taken at minimum focus distance at wide open aperture.):

This following one is really fun. It's a post of a pretty model by a shop. But from a fish's eye, she doesn't look that fantastic anymore :D

Lovely film shots with the fisheye lens fengwei, sometime is nice to
be abit fishy!;)

Nice shots with the fisheye. You have any eye for using this.

Nice fishy fengwei :bsmilie: Never fail to amaze us with your toy lens! u bought another 10 rolls of reala? You should try out all different films available in the market. I'm still using slides.

Thanks Lawrence. I used an 8mm fisheye on film cam before, but that's totally different FOV from this A16. I prefer the A16 much more though :)

Thanks JK. It's a very cool lens to play.

Thanks Charlie. Next time I'd shoot w/ the K17 fisheye and see how that one performs on film :)

I might try some other films too. But for now, I really love Reala 100.

Hi, I have a few queries on film photography, more specifically about the equipment, but I'm not so sure where to put this.

I have two cameras, a Spotmatic F and a SFXn. However, they face a couple of problems.

Firstly, both have fungus infections, but I'm more interested in the Spotmatic F, since the SFXn is otherwise functioning (I think), and it has more novelty value. Also, I've already had its lenses cleaned as opposed to the SFXn. It also has problems with the meter I think, something about the battery inside being corroded. Is it worth the $230 Steven from Camera Hospital quoted me to rescue it and recondition the shutter, bearing in mind that I'm still a student with not much money?

Secondly, the SFXn, apart from being fungus-infected, also needs 2CR5 batteries. Anybody have any experience on how long it lasts? Or where I can buy it from? Is it worth the $200 for cleaning of this body as well?

Thank you very much for your patience and help!

I was having the same dilemmas too but i decided to let it CLA because it has sentimental values to me. My Spotmatic F belongs to my dad, well, inherited to me now. I'm now a happy camper with my Spotmatic F and i did more than 5 rolls of film with no problems. Very rewarding once you nailed the focusing right! This Spotty durability will probably outlast any digital cam in the long run. If you are on a tight budget, i suggest u get a film slr from the pentax BNS. What m42 lenses you are using?

CLA?

Mine also belongs to my dad, but he doesn't use it anymore so I've taken it.

I have the SMC Takumar 55/1.8 and 35/2. I'm currently looking for another 24 or 28, preferably 24 so I can have something wider, not much budget for it though.

I'm using them with a Canon EOS 50D now.

CLA = Clean Lube Adjust

Wah, 35/2 keep this! Its rare. 55/1.8 is very very sharp, use it! Yeah, i'm looking for a 24 too, seems rare too. If i were u, i will use the 35/2 for street (day and night) and using the 55/1.8 for for everything else. I have 35/3.5, 50/1.4 and 135/3.5. My 50/1.4 hardly comes off from my Spotmatic f, :bsmilie:. i prefer the idea to sticking one lens per roll.

The 35/2 is yellowed, so I only use it occasionally, but the 55/1.8 is almost permanently mounted on my 50D. It effectively made my EF 50mm f/1.8 redundant

Oh i mean use your 55/1.8 on your Spotmatic F. regarding the yellowing problem, some say leave it under the sunlight(bad choice i think) or ultraviolet lamp to clear up.

I'm rather reluctant to use them together, because the body is still fungus-infested, especially the mirror if I recall correctly, whereas I managed to fund the cleaning of the lens.

Your photos are tempting me!

What do you use for the metering cell battery?

Time to start saving...

Hey newuser, the battery i'm using is P625U bought from steven:lovegrin:. Go get it fixed:thumbsup: and joing our monthly outing! When checking the battery indicator, set the speed dial mode to B (bulb) and turn your Asa dial to 100, if the needle is pointing up, that means your battery is good to go! I always check it before i start my day of shooting with my spotty.

Thanks for the tip!

My priorities right now:

1) Dry cab
