Just posted: Dpreview.com's in-depth review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1

Panasonic DMC GX1 Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

thanks !

Seems like the reviewer is impressed with the GX1.

The JPEG is substantially improved ..." Improved image processing produces the most impressive high ISO JPEG performance we have seen in any Micro Four Thirds offering from Panasonic or Olympus. ".

so is low light autofocusing ..."we were very impressed with the AF system's ability to quickly lock focus on static subjects indoors even under low light conditions."

this is a good camera, but i still prefer the upcoming OMD-EM5 with IBIS, EVF, weather sealed and olympus colour.

no on board flash is a deal breaker for me..

there is a small flash that we can attach to it, so not an issue.

GX1 is without both EVF and IBIS, so it is a double breaker for me too.

so when everything is consider, i will still vote for OMD-EM5.

Sometimes I wonder if IBIS and OIS really help a lot or are people looking for the placebo effect especially considering how many people come to the forums asking "why is my IS not working?" only to find that the bugger was using a shutter speed of 1/10 or something of the like...

IBIS and OIS are very useful when you take photos of still subjects under low light or shoot w/ tele lenses, but not as useful when shooting at moving subjects like kids or families.

I would imagine OIS to be better because it is closer to the center of gravity of the lens rather than the IBIS?

Also, I would imagine that from Panasonic's point of view, the IBIS system would make it difficult to conduct heat away from the sensor, seeing that the entire GH2 sensor was essentially mounted on a large heat sink that spread throughout the camera. (which probably implies that the Olympus cameras could never be used for video for too long before the sensor shuts down from overheating).

Those 3 to 5 stops from an IS system seem theoretical to me. I suppose there are conditions where it works just fine, but I'd just as soon have better low light performance and light equipment.

Its easy. Just switch off IS. If you see your percentage of blur shots do not increase in low light, then probably it is a useless technology.

Yes. no inbuilt-flash is definitely a deal-breaker for me.

and price as well....not too sure how much the EM5 will cost locally...I presume it would be much more expensive than GX1?

Sorry, i am a newbie to GX1

1. How do I do exposure compensate?
2. How do I do flash compensate?
3. How do I format the SD card?

Thanks.

OM-D is bound to be more expensive than the GX1
OM-D body only, according to those pre-order is US 999. Believe come wif a flash unit.

If we include the addition EVF for the GX1, work out to be almost same.

function wise,as usual newer one more comprehensive.... more attractive.

I liked GX1, the most retro m3/4
With this OM-D.... Ooooooo.....

I a sucker for retro....

To add on, panny lens on gx1 perfect compatibility. Dont know if the omd will work perfectly with panny lens; ppl complain about the rattlesnake noises with their oly body using panny lens.
