Fujifilm X100S

I just bought the X100S today.

didnt have a chance to go thru the manual yet, but i noticed that i was unable to go wider than f4.5. (range only f4.5 - 7.1)
i dont see any settings that i can change for this?

Have u tried turning the aperture ring? Or just been trying to change using the toggle at the back?

Well pointed out :)

it was indeed the aperture ring... was fooling around with it earlier and didnt think it made a difference when i was using the toggle

Anyone in the same dilemma as me? Can't decide if I should get hood or filter or both or none. Hahaha.

i slap on the wcl-x100 without anything else. looks good on the cam too, provided 28mm is your cup of coffee.

me too.. as and when i need to use WCL i think i better not to use any filter.

for protection i rely more on the lens cap :)

Just to share some lobang with bros here. Today i went searching for x100s but tk foto was out of stock. So i went to a few camera shops to ask and finally SLRR has stock and was selling <$1535 with all the freebies. Just some infos for bro here who are interested in getting it.

I asked tk, they said promotion is from 7 Mar to 7 April. After 7 Apr will x100s price go up?

They are referring to the freebies given out by fujifilm. free extra batt, cleaning kits and travel premium that is redeemable at their HQ.

Update: for those who read abt my experiece of getting a lemon unit at slrr on friday and Initially being refused a direct exchange, i just collected a new unit from them after fuji rep checked and confirmed it was manufacturer fault.

While waiting i read quite a few similar cases that happened to the original x100. Hope the sticky aperture blade problems have been sorted out ...

Any thxs all who wished me well :)

That's good news bro! Enjoy your cam! :)

Went to Funan today to buy my X100S. At 1230pm, John 3:16 opened its doors and immediately a stream of people walked into the shop. First thing being sold was a Canon 650D, followed by an OM-D and then my X100S.

Price was $1550. Bought a Gordy neck strap for $45 too. Tested the X100S and I can tell you it is very snappy! AF is really fast. I can vouch for the inprovement in AF speed because I own the X100 as well. Coincidentally, I was carrying a bag containing my old X100 set. It was to be sold to a friend of mine for $500.

John 3:16 is really good. Staff were nice and friendly. I usually head to Alan photo or TK photo first, but I think I'd start making John 3:16 my priority from today onwards.

Feel good for you and feel sorry for slrr, they missed the opportunity to keep a loyal customer like you who gave them more than $5000 worth of business in the past.

Hi all,

Today i compare the three cameras i have to see what the differences between them. An OMD, EP3 and X100S. I don know how to do a scientific comparison. This is purely based on my own comparison.
In term of AF, OMD offers the fastest AF, follow by EP3 and X100s being the slowest. I don't owe X100 so i don know how much improvement has been done on the X100s. I am in fact quite disappointed with the AF as it has hybrid AF system while the former two only has contrast AF but then X100s offers the best MF system and I'm still trying to learn using their focus peaking method and split method. OMD and EP3 are best left at AF.

Image quality wise, i still prefer the ooc jpeg from OMD as compared to x100s. Im using the same equivalent focal length from olympus 17mm 1.8. I am able to get sharper image from OMD than from X100s. Maybe I'm still not familiar to x100s, as it required u to change to macro mode to shoot at near object but OMD does not need to. I will compare again. Maybe Someone can share their settings for their x100s?
I haven't test the hi ISO output from the cameras but needless to say, EP3 with sure lose out but I'm not too sure will there be much diff between OMD and x100s.
Video wise, OMD beat X100s as there is 5axis stabilisation and no IS on X100s. Ur video will be much less jerky.

Size wise, x100s are bigger than OMD and EP3 especially with the case on. Im using gariz case for x100s and OMD. Of course, one is a APS C format and the other twos are M4/3. I have no complain since my old D90 was much bigger. For me, it is easier to change setting on x100s than on olympus. The EVF on X100s is better than OMD and the worst belong to EP3 as i only have VF3 which has a lower resolution. OVF need to get used to it cos i cannot see the depth of field as the last time i used it was on my D90.

Is either i have too high expectation for X100s or OMD is really good, i kind of disappointed with X100s. If u dont owe OMD, i think x100s is really good if u coming from the APSC dslr. It is small, good looking and quality output Jpegs. If u owe OMD, do not expect that it is much better. OMD is really that gd... But x100s can be a gd second camera to OMD.

Lastly, i think i need to spend more time with my x100s to get it to work to its potential. It is really retro and good looking camera. A leica look alike camera for people like me who cannot afford Leica. :)

Thanks for your feedback!

Here's my own personal feedback:
I owned OMD before but have sold it away to finance purchase of this x100s.
This is also not a scientific comparison but having compared the pics taken with both cams i would say x100s IQ beat OMD hands down especially for iso 800 and above. DR also much better..
I also have 5dmk3. And i can say X100s IQ is comparable with 5d3 in terms of noise control (up to iso 6400 - so far based on my hands on in the past few days) and seems that x100s has more details. I like the noise grain of x100s.. it just looks more pleasing.
Please note that this is all based on jpeg files sooc.
One thing i realize is that if i show the pics to my wife from the camera lcd, my wife feels that OMD looks better or at least no improvement from the OMD but once i transferred it to the computer and zoom it to 100% we can see the difference. Very obvious!! Maybe it's all due to the lcd resolution so we cannot really tell the difference.

Auto WB i prefer on X100s as well and it looks more accurate compare to OMD which is more yellowish.

AF speed i cannot tell probably OMD win slightly faster. Not really a big difference to me/my shooting style since both cams i would say not on par to mid/high-end DSLR in terms of AF tracking which is more important than just snappy AF.

Also one thing i don't like from OMD (this is the main reason i change system) is the shutter delay. The moment i press the shutter and the actual image taken is different. I miss lots of moment of my kids due to this.. strangely very seldom people notice this issue on the net (never read comments on this from any reviewers).. maybe it's down to individual skills to capture the moment :)

Size wise, yes X100s slightly bigger and thicker but if you attach OMD with the lens, i actually prefer the overall size of x100s. Unless you always use pancake lens on OMD. To me, the size of x100s just nice for my hand to hold as well.

I actually prefer the X100s to be slightly bigger, but not as big as X-pro1. personal preference as i have big hands, nothing wrong with the camera.

Just curious..and i know it is out of topic..which shops provide 1 to 1 exchange within 7 days other than TK and Click! ?
