Fujifilm X100S

Different. X100s uses d newer x trans sensor tat has both phase detection n contrast detection AF. Tatz y it allows d focus peaking n split image MF assist.

But because they had to put in the PD sensors, they also had to make adjustments to the sensor .. The improved EXR processor might also make things different .. I think the X100s quality would be similar to XE1/XPro 1, but with better AE/AWB and better film simulation .. But overall should be very similar. I'm hoping its a little better though ..

Yes it is. I was quoted $1550 with gst

Just bought mine from Cathay at S$1600 GST included. So yours inclusive of GST at S$1550 total?
Wondering where to get the filter adapter or the WCL. How much should I pay?
Thanks! (my first posting actually).

I've been spending so much time with the X100s, there's beginning to be some dissatisfaction in the ranks...

What happened?

Am pacing out my X100S against my OMD EM5 with the 12-50mm combo set right now.
First impressions:
1. LCD screen of Fuji is whilst lower in resolution is very bright but overly contrasty. Also Fuji LCD has a brownish overtone. Prefer the Oly.
Someone posted here that viewing on his computer monitor tells an opposite story between the same tests.
2. Even at the softest SHARP setting, the Fuji beats the Oly. Can't seem to fine-tune the SHARPNESS settings of the Oly. Fuji wins.
3. The Fuji is still relatively stable at 1/15sec but the Oly wins by a whisker.
4. Price wise about the same. Oly wins for flexibly of zoom. Fuji by higher quality lens though the Oly is no slouch.
5. Both have flash though Oly's to be fixed unlike Fuji's build-in and option of external as well as one for Commander mode. Fuji wins for convenience.
5. Menu is far more flexible and with the Q button, the X100S is now even better than the XPro 1 as the circular ring dial around the Menu OK button is more flexible than the XP1. Fuji wins really by a whisker again. The Oly is almost as capable only the some functions are less direct.
6. The enlargement for viewing by rotating one of the top dials of the Oly is much easier to use as well as offers a one-handed control unlike the Fuji where both hands are needed. Oly wins.
7. Build quality of both is high. Both winners.
8. Movable LCD screen of Oly wins hands down. Also the diopter of Oly has a wider range. Oly wins again.
9. Fuji over-exposes by as much as 1 stop. Oly wins.
10. Feel good factor, Fuji is an outright winner. The Oly is a true workhorse, reliable (dropped my camera on a hard floor once and the lens on its own another, and both continue to work fine). I love my Leicas and Fuji beats it simply for the AF. My XP1 and now the X100S catches attention like a pretty girl in a skimpy dress.
11. Continuous shots Oly's 9 FPS versus Fuji's 6. Clear win to Oly.
12. Fuji needs a special adapter for its filter. Oly wins for simplicity here.
13. Focusing manually with the ground breaking digital split screen is fun and innovative with the X100S. Beats the XP1 which doesn't have this feature. Though the clarity of the Leica true optical rangefinder is way better (when correctly aligned). No comparable feature in Oly. Fuji wins for sheer fun. But the peaking is almost useless in the Fuji. Oly wins. Sony's the best as one can chose the colours.
14. Flexibility of lenses. No competition from Fuji. Oly trashes the X100S but Fuji wins for simplifying my life.

This is only my first few hours with the X100S.
To summarise for now, the Oly wins my head, the Fuji my heart.

Have fun.

Went to SEA Aquarium today with my gf. The dark conditions were really testing for the X100S. With the old X100, focussing would take at least 1.5-2.0 seconds. With the X100S, in the lowest of light conditions it managed to lock focus in less than 1.0 seconds, roughly 0.5-0.8s. I think this is very good already, cos with my D700, in such conditions it would also take abit of time to hunt and lock focus.

Anyway, one thing I encountered was that when I was using the EVF, when I half depress to focus, we usually see the image freeze briefly. This is seen in the X100, and also X100s, which doesn't bother me cos the freeze is very brief in X100s. However, I had a single encounter whereby during focussing, the EVF suddenly flashed all pink ie. all pixels in the EVF turned solid pink for a split second as it briefly focused.

It only happened once. I I'm wondering if any of you have experienced that too.

Hi guys....

May I check if the X100S has live histogram feature in Manual mode?

I used a Fuji compact cam (the F series) in the past. One issue I had and I read it still happens in Fujifilm's recent cams, is that in Manual mode, the histogram does not display the real-time changes you make to the exposure. And the screen also does not become darker or lighter as you change the exposure. I really don't understand why Fuji made their cams that way.

Is it the same also with the X100S?

Hi,
I just checked on my x100s and yes the histogram still does not reflect the actual exposure however the exposure compensation bar will reflect it if you're under expose or over expose.

As for the screen, it shows you the actual exposure if you half-pressed the shutter.

One question, when using art filters, the ISO can't be changed? Mine seems fixed at ISO800.

Never happened to me but then i seldom use EVF. I prefer either using OVF or compose thru the lcd screen.

Anybody compared the x100s awb under tungsten light? The x100 was slightly yellow

Don't have a 'test', but so far, my impression has been that it's not 'yellow'. More of a soft, pleasing 'orange'.

Don't know how to explain. I think it looks more X10 - since I know you have X10.
