Hi Felix,
Actually MS Color at AMK Central and ALSO the Hub too. The one at the hub stocks lesser range and more retail than specialty. :)

yup. the people at the AMK Central store next to S11 are friendlier too.

Thank you for sharing the photos of Leica X1. Are you trying to sell X1 here? Hehe. Just kidding. :P
Anyway X1, X100 or Nx100, they are nice camera that can perform but what's the point of comparing sharpness, contrast etc when one will post process the photos in the end?
The greatest weakness is the photographer himself, including myself. That’s why the best photo of mine is always the next one and the one in the future. :)

anyone have infor on the retail package here for the $1699 price tag? got hood and leather case?

Anxiously waiting for news of its release then I will chiong down to the shop to hoot one

from what one of the shop that i preorded from it will be 16gb sd card, premium case and screen protector and maybe only 3rd party battery...

it all depends on whether it has a working AFC that can track moving objects.....

YES, YES! If the thing can't focus quickly then it just becomes a glorified point and shoot, albeit one with some v. nice manual features and a large sensor. I can't believe I don't see more photogs putting this as a main criterion for a proper compact AF camera. Apart from the tiny sensors, the other really horrid thing about traditional compact cameras has *always* been their crummy AF systems.

And, sure, there are more premium compacts out there that do ok with their contrast detection AF. But that's not good enough if I am shelling out more than a grand for a compact camera. I do hope this camera sells well--so it will give Fuji some more R&D money to put first rate AF detection in this beauty. Wow, then you would have a *finally* have a compact digi that could truly go head-to-head with a DSLR.

why need to go head to head with dslr ? The x100 is a form factor camera with large sensor to appeal to buyers who wants a digital range finder or at least look alike. The reaction it has generated meant that it had hit a sweet spot that has been missing in the digital photography age for a while.

Dont think its glorified pns la, take a walk along esplanade on sat, you see tons of people hanging DSLR across their necks. Some of them aunties, uncle, kids, who use pop up flash to shoot MBS from far. Thats even more glorified PNS rite ....

The success of x100 can only mean good things for us. It could herald in an era where affordable digital rangefinders could be near.

Hmm reading from the review on Steve Huff's website, the IQ of the X100 seems excellent, on par with the latest APS-C sensors in the market now and the 23mm lens seems to be a good performer.

Btw if the shutter is limited to 1/1000s, do the built in ND filters kick in automatically in Aperture priorty or will the camera just flash an overexposure warning (assuming shooting in very bright conditions)?

Key will really be how it handles. If it can replicate the RF experience closely it will sell well to enthusiasts. I can't wait to give it a try :)

Does your ND filter currently automatically mounts itself onto the lens of your DSLR under the same situation? If not, is it so important if the X100 does not automatically kick in? :dunno:

X-100 is mechanical and menu driven. It let you control more and be creative and learn more into photography

This class of cameras was started by Olympus with the EP1. They are not meanrt to be DSLR replacements although some may do it. They are for PnS shooters who want much better image quality and low light performance while retaining the simplicity and small size of the PnS. What Fujifilm wants to do is "Apple" their entry in this class, i.e...give it a cool factor so more will buy it and pay more too. But the price is still a little too high for me considering at that price you can almost buy a semi pro Pentax K5 already but for those who can't afford the Leica, this is a good replacement.
I'll wait for the X200 to come and looks for sub-$1000 offers from upgraders.:bsmilie:

Actually I feel that the X100 is more for people who want a digital rangefinder or at least a camera that works and looks like one without having to pay big bucks for a M8 or M9 or hard-to-find Epson R-D1s. It is even more attractive to people like me who like the retro-styling and workings of the rangefinders but can't deal with the need to manual focus all the time, especially without the aid of a high resolution magnificable EVF.

Well yes it would be important if you're limited to 1/1000s max shutter speed as reported by the first impression post in Steve Huff's website.

That may or may not be important to you, but its a perfectly valid question to ask since its a choice that Fuji made with the X100's shutter design.

Well one reason why people would buy x100 is because they don't want to carry the size of a K5 even though the prices are similar. So I guess this camera is only for people who can justify why they NEED it and are willing to pay the price for it. People who just wants to play play with it or just want the looks would then complain about the price being too high, cannot change lens, no zoom etc etc etc. To me X100 is like a specialised camera not suited for all but to those who can appreciate it and utilise it well.

I would feel that size may not be the main issue. Pentax kr is already quite small.
It's really the allure of the design. Prior to x100, people have liken g12 series as digital rangefinder look alike. It even has a vf but not corrected for parallel error.

X100 now gives people a even more real sense of shooting a digital rangefinder, but only in form. In substance , this is still an auto focus digital camera.

Ok, head to head wasn't meant to be taken literally. How could it when you get a whole system with a DSLR but here you have a fixed lens compact?

Let me rephrase my post. Why not have a superior focusing system in a small camera? That would be a class leading and hitherto never done before feature of a compact digi. Subjects move. You shoot in challenging light conditions. Why the heck wouldn't you want a great focusing system in a compact camera?

That was one of the great features of the Hexar AF (which the X100 has been compared to countless times) compared to competing cameras at the time--that it could focus more accurately and more quickly than other compact 35mm cameras. That is all I am asking for here. And I would pay for it--even more than a grand.

When the operations manager at fujifilm was asked:

"One might guess that the autofocus of the X100 will be by contrast. Did you not consider the possibility of using a hybrid AF like in the FinePix F300 EXR? Is this option contemplated for the future?"

He answered: "We are considering developing both hybrid AF and phase detection AF technology for future."

So I guess I am not alone here in this thought. ;>
