Fuji X100 - Part 2

Press the "display/back" button under the command dial will activate the info on the OVF.

Thanks, finally got it working. Phew! For once, I thought it was faulty. :)

I'd like to share my X100 exposure problem.
at aperture priority (AE) mode, the aperture blade seems cannot shrink to correct size, hence the smaller aperture I set, the more overexposure. The problem becames more and more frequency (unfortunately I did not summary the above symptom at earlier) and sent it to Fujifilm service centre. When I explained the symptom to the clerk, I found also that if I set to full manual mode and set back to AE mode, the problem solved, but restart the camera, the problem came back.

My camera 's been there for 3 weeks now. Yersterday I called but still not available.

Just called, I was told waiting for the parts, the lens need to be replaced.

Don't know can get it back before x'mas or not. After owning the x100, just don't feel like to use my EP2 anymore.

Why not? Isn't it better to be able to change lens?

Because the EP2 don't have a proper VF. I don't like the EVF attached on the hot shoe.
The x100 operations just like my Contax G in the old days, not the EP2.

I c...u can get those optical VF that attaches to the hotshoe, just that it won't match all focal length but still usable i think.

It seems there is really a lot of issue regarding the "sticky aperture blade" for x100.
I'm seriously considering buying x100 but after researching, may i know is it still worth to buy x100 ?

Hey buddy, can please pm me the shop and price you got your x100? Thanks.

Worth or not is really subjectives, no one can answer for you though we can share the expriences with you.
For some owners, they can live with the cons of the X100 while some of them cant and decided to let go.

For my case, I own the X100 closed to 2 months and had been hit with the both the dusty VF and the sticky aperture blade issues on my X100.
I send my X100 twice to the service centre and just got it back recently with a new replacement set.
Of cos with this new replacement set, I myself cant answer will the issues resurfaced with only keeping my finger crossed.

Despite all the times and troubles that I had went through, I never have the thoughts to let go of this prized prossesion of mine
thought I myself can choose to shoot with my others Cameras.

Though FujiFilm service centre take a longer period of time (up to 3 weeks) to get the problems fixed.
So far I been very pleased with the professionalism that they are providing which they deserved a THUMB UP!

Dont know who you are asking.
I bought mine in the last IT show in Sept. from Song Brothers. 1400 bucks.

It's first time buy such expensive stuff not from Cathay...

Oh, Qingtian, you also got the sticky aperture issue.

When I sent it back, the clerk heard it's a X100, she gives a “意味深长” (profound in meaning?) smile, which made me , erh, at that moment, suspected if I bought it at correct time....

to notme123, I did not owe DSLR, the only DC I had was a canon powershort S60 bought 7 yrs ago. I've been waiting for a large-size sensor, fixed length large aperture lense DC for years. and finally it came this X100, let alone the beautiful classic style, the wonderful EVF/OVF. hence to me it worth what I paid for....

Yes is a sticky aperture issues as it match the descriptions that I checked over the net.
And that issues surfaced 2 weeks after I gt the dusty VF cleared up.
I guess it could be detected earlier if I start shooting with it once I got it back which I didnt since I'm a weekend shooter.

In all honesty, if I change lens for DSLR, the quality improve tremendously and can take more stuff (from consumer to say professional level lens). The same can't be said for the MFTs. Definitely can change for different looks and shots but the quality for me don't work.

So for some cases, the ability to change lens, especially for MFT doesn't really make much sense.

Thought I give a quick review of my weekend with the X100

Rented a set from a camera rental store to try out before commiting next month.

Weather was really bad so din get much opportunity to shoot outdoors.

As per my earlier concern on capturing my kids, it wasnt too much of an issue using the multi shot mode.

Picture quality was excellent with great bokeh effects.

my only gripe is that when i wanted to take really close up shots of my kids, i need to switch to the Macro mode in order for the camera to focus.

I dunno its the individual camera problem or a generic one.

Overall, I will definately be getting one in Dec to go to HK with, minor limitations, as I have been using a prime 35mm most of the time on my DSLR, this aint too big of an issue being stuck with a prime lens.

I love it !!!

I went shooting at the World Orchid Conference just now. It is overrated, the garden festival was much better and tickets cheaper. Anyway, I had fun shooting with my X100. Towards the end, I realised my X100 caught the sticky aperture problem...better early than late but I'm gonna miss it for sometime. :(

you mean you previosly do not have this problem and it suddenly happens or you only realised it now?

I think so. Maybe previously I didn't use as much to realise it. But it's better now than after the warranty. I saw over at DPreview forum that the new replacement set is available already so it's a good thing in a way.
