Fuji X10, so pretty!

800 bucks seems too high for a pns. It is entering the entry lvl dslr price range, the price range of the EVIL models. It may look nice but comparing with other compacts such as Olympus XZ-1, Canon s100 it depends on the customer would he want to pay more for looks.

Not to mention the competition from Pentax Q, upcoming Nikon V1, J1.

More reviews would be needed to see what has X10 got over its competitiors. It is interesting but to me I would consider twice because of the price.

The moment we categorise a camera into types (MFT, PnS, Prosumer, DSLR) instead of the image quality performance, then we are really judging a book by its cover. Those who put the x100 into PnS territory was sorely mistaken when it comes to IQ. Don't make the same mistakes twice IMHO.

Do buy a camera that is worth every penny when it comes to the images it produces. No point paying close to $1000 or beyond when it cannot even go beyond the image quality of a compact camera in the $300-500 region.

I saw the official x10 gallery and I must say, N1 should look at what can be done to small sized sensor. The EXR processor is certainly doing a good job.

By saying it is pns i mean it is non-interchangable lens system. When people say PnS it need not be anything about IQ at all. So nobody is saying that PnS must be of inferior quality in terms of IQ. However there are certain advantages about interchangable lens systems over PnS so it might make some of us think twice about which is the model to go now that in terms of price wise they are about the same.

The sad part of it is that when someone do mention PnS, the automatic reaction is that it is of inferior quality. If it isn't just go down orchard road and see how many DSLRs are there.

If ILS is not good, then no one would buy it. But then getting ILS camera from MFT to N1 to normal DSLR means a hefty financial commitment. Price wise definitely is not the same especially when someone who wants to get to the quality of the x10 (based on gallery) or x100 (based on actual experience) and have to do a lot more lens upgrading, chief of which is getting a 24mm prime lens. Even so, the OOC IQ from established DSLR camera brand doesn't match up in my eyes (it may for those who are reading but photography is subjective).

I got burned by telling someone who is learning to get a good compact with manual controls to learn photography because that person think that I look down on her for suggesting her to avoid buying DSLR system first. That's how ingrained the general public view on camera is now.

For the matter, it is still ok for X10 to cost around $800, because similar class Olympus XZ-1 cost $748 when launch in Singapore. Therefore this type of pns(fast aperture, large sensor)cost this much. The best part is that X10 is 2/3" sensor which is bigger than XZ-1 1/1.6" sensor. If you compare the uniqueness, XZ-1 offer filter art mode like pinhole shooting, miniature shooting etc. X10 however offer velvia filter... ... i will still opt for X10 because I always like fujifilm image quality, very vivid and saturated that brings more life to the pictures. If you still want to compare the price for now, of course XZ-1 is cheaper($550 at Alan photo).

Guys you may not notice but 2/3 is 0.66 while 1/1.6 is 0.62 so essentially they are similar sized sensors. Its the marketing that gives the impression its different. :-)

Oh no. Its difference....

But not much lah.

nice!!! fujifilm seems to be tired of competing with the mass market competitors and turning its focus to retro look camera! i would say this is a positive step ahead! haha...

very nice but in terms of size - its about the same as the Nex7, so there's going to be some very strong competition between the two. as well as the G12. But with these features, the more advanced photographers are going to have a headache.

But still this is a good looking all-in-one fuss free camera.

in Canada fujifilm has a 2-year warranty - what about SG?

My take will be one pns as a secondary camera, and a DSLR as a primary shoot for events. This pns that i want will just able to fit into my small sling bag with tablet day in day out.

In practical terms, its insignificant but they seem to keep on emphasing 2/3 as if its a huge improvement. But we also cannot discount the fact that sensor performance is also improving. CMOS used to be cheap crap when it was first introduced but today they do offer a credible performance almost on par with CCD-based cameras in terms of noise reduction. Sony especially has been introducing quite a number of low noise CMOS sensors used in the Pentax KR and K5 as well as the Pentax Q. The Q has a 1/2.3" sensor but its noise performance is incredibly good for the size.

Some test shots with a X10 ... I must say I'm pretty satisfied with it. Way lighter than a X100 and easy to use.

Ndroo, is it selling in Hong Kong already?

Yeah ... for about 6000 HKD with leather case.

:o That's a 900 plus SGD. I thought the price is set at 599 USD?
That's way too expensive for a PnS.
