Fuji X-M1

When to today to get the Fuji x-M1 . Ghee it look very plastic and look like a toy. Salesman recommend me the Olympus saying
it is better. The Fuji x-M1 deal is very good $849 body with the lens. plus Free spare battery plus free gift from Fuji plus shop free gift plus $20 voucher. wow. but I suspect with all the free gift are they trying to get rid of the product.

I can never understand the "plastic" comments...

For me, the important things is how the camera feels in the hand, and how it operates. I can never see why "plastic" would be a con unless you feel it is not weighted properly.

It comes with a half case to cover up the "plastic".

I am pairing up my touit 12mm with the XM1 because the moving LCD will help with framing and changing the angle. I also have the XE1 which although is probably better built, does not have a lot of the improvements in XM1.

Agree for $800+ it is considered as one of the best camera around in term of $ and quality, cannot complain more about the camera.

thanks for sharing about fuji's year end promo. picked up an X-M1 - great value for money. question: keep the kit lens or swap it for the 18-55 f2.8? anyone done a comparison?

I am supposed to buy a compact camera, GX16, X20 or RX100 II are my choices. After some reading and advised from friends I choosed X-M1 with the following reasons: - same sensor of it's higher siblings and can produce same image quality - compact and lightweigt (that's why it's plastic) - articulated screen and wi-fi capabilty - cheaper than RX100 II and only few hundred dollar difference compare to GX16 and X20 Iterchangebale lens is my worry. It may lead to buy buy virus Chees!

Good rational and decision.

I am settling for Sony Nex bought the Carl Zeiss zoom for it already. At least it look like a camera. I am aiming for the Zeiss Trouit lens .So far no good review beside the name is Zeiss. I think fuji is over charging for its plastic camera. well that is my opinion.

which nex did you buy? I had the nex6 for a while one year back. I thought the nex 6 is more user friendly than the fuji X-series. The UI is much better on the NEX. The problem at that time was the sony lens available was not too good. I needed an ultrawide and the 10-18mm is not very good.

Actually Sony usually have a absorb GST promotion sometime around Nov... which is straight away 7% off the best price.

Considering your opinons about "overcharging" I really hope you are not thinking about buying Zeiss Touit Locally..... that one is really "overcharging"....

My personal view is that the handling of the X-E1 is so good that there is seldom the need to delve into the menu system so I can't really agree that the UI is no good - the Q menu is really quite fantastic, just too bad that button is positioned so badly (fixed on the X-E2).

I think it is also ironic that you switched to Fuji from NEX because of the need for an ultra wide because the X System have no native ultra wides as well - except for the eye wateringly priced Zeiss 12mm! 😁

My main complain with the XE1 UI is the way they handle burst shots during playback....

They realised their mistake and fixed it in XM1 but how they got it wrong in the first place is amazing....

I switched from the 10-18mm to 14mm on the fuji. I kind off missed the 10mm so I changed the 14mm to a 12mm touit now. If the 12mm touit was available 6 months ago, I would have probably stuck with the NEX6.

I agree the 14mm is fantastic - but being used to my 10-20mm, 14mm is not nearly wide enough.

I see… I agree with the burst mode implementation, but it doesn't bother me because the X-E1 has taught me to take my time! :)

So does the 12mm satisfy your craving for the 10-18mm? I'm so used to having 10mm available on my dSLR that 14mm is just not wide enough. I was tempted by the Touit 12mm when it came out, but the price killed the interest! Well that, and the fact that it's still not 10mm.

I bought the NEX 5N and sold the lens and bought the Carl Zeiss Tessar 16-70mm .

I just read a magazine, it says the Touit lens is made by Cosina.eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh

As whole you are paying for Zeiss lens. If it made in China you wanna pay the price?

Cosina is a Japanese company dimwit! Japanese companies have been producing Zeiss branded lenses like forever! Which rock have you been living under for the last couple of decades at least?

I hate the burst mode implementation as I usually shoot moving subjects and burst mode is kind of essential...

I had both the 14mm and 12mm together for a period of time. The 14mm really isn't wide enough for me. I haven't really seriously shot with the 12mm yet.... will bring the 12mm on my next vacation in Dec. Hopefully that is good enough.

The 14mm and 12mm is optically pretty similar to me and both are very good at the corners. I sold the 14mm because like the FOV of the 12mm much better. I can always crop a little. I went with the 12mm and not wait for the 10-18mm from fuji because after using Sony's 10-18mm, I find the WA zoom has pretty bad corners. Maybe the fuji will be different. If it is, I would definately prefer a 10-18mm zoom.

Fujifilm will be launching 10-24mm, better range and not 10-18mm. I am hoping for good corner sharpness as well.

Canon user and new to Fuji. I found the flash is disabled and i cannot enable it.

Pressed the 'flash' button to pop up the flash. After pressing Q button, and select 'Flash Mode', cannot change it. In Menu, the 'Flash Mode' is grayed out? Any body know how to enable it?

Thanks.

Andrew

Was accidentally set to 'silent mode', where flash is disabled.
