How's the effectiveness and usefulness of the face detection?

played with a s6500fd yesterday at ms color ... hahah .. the face detection is very fun to use ... not bad imo .. but not sure how useful ...

can anybody post a 100% crop on the ISO3200 pictures? Is it very noisy? And also hows the battery life?

It's located at Funan IT Mall 3rd or 4th floor, you can't miss it.;)
yeah, take the external escalator all the way up and you'll get there. 3rd floor.

According to the salesman, when using 2500mAh rechargable batteries, can last about 400 pictures under normal usage.
Don't know how true it is,:dunno:

Just wanna check, is there any place I can get a screen protector for this camera LCD screen? And what is a good backpack recommendation for this camera with a toshiba satellite laptop?

Thanks guys for the replies, yesterday i bought from MS Color at $699 include 1G xD, Lowepro pouch and tripod. :)

hope u get steady shots bro.. i decided not to get it, got a Sony H5 instead over the weekend.

From the posts in dpreview forums where I read about many people complaining about getting blur shots with long zoom prosumer cameras without image stabiliser, I guess it's better to get a camera with an image stabiliser if the person doesn't understand about the minimum shutter speed needed for handheld shots vs focal length and also about the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO in getting the right exposure.

Some of them had a shutter speed too slow because they didn't open the aperture wider or didn't up the ISO to compensate.

Some simply have very shaky hands.

oh, was looking for a 10/12x zoomer and was tempted by Fuji's latest offering.. I went to the shop to try and found it hard to steady a shot (maybe my fault la).. plus some comments from forums abt the quality and so i moved on... I got the H5 coz reviews quite ok lah.. and got IS... could have gotten the Canon S3 but i guess i like the H5 sample pics more.

Unfortunately even with image stabilisation, the performance of the H5 is nowhere near that of the S6500 at high ISOs and this is not just my opinion. :(
Check out the comparisons at various ISOs here:

wow.. i think he forget to turn on the IS for the sony.. hehe.. i don't get such results..

Here's a comparison between the F30 (same CCD thingy as the 6500fd) and the H5:

My personal thots lah:
1. I prefer H5 image.

2. I don't see why i need to bump up the ISO just to get a comparable shot as the F30 (and in so doing get the ugly noise). Is the fuji high ISO overplayed till the point where it's used even when it isn't necessary?

3. Review sites differ quite considerably. I look at the H5 sample pics in other review forums and I think the output is more decent than that given by http://www.mg-fotos.de/

The S6500fd is very tempting indeed.

Just to add on :

Image stabilisation is not a perfect substitute for good noise performance at high ISO because IS doesn't change the shutter speed and thus won't be able to freeze an action under certain light conditions.

IS helps to counter handshake but it does nothing to avoid motion blur. While handshake can be countered by the use of a tripod, motion can only be freezed by a high shutter speed, meaning that high ISO are needed in certain light conditions to achieve fast enough shutter speed to freeze motion.

Once a person understands the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO, he knows how to adjust the camera to avoid handshake blur as much as possible and get the desired faster shutter speed at the same time if the light condition and camera capability permit.

Just as I suspected.

The light condition in the shop and in shopping centre etc. will surely require a very slow shutter speed. If you didn't open your aperture wide and also pump up the ISO, you're sure to get handshake blur if the camera is without an image stabiliser.

Also keep in mind that motion blur is something which the IS is of no help but high ISO can sometimes solve the problem.

my personal opinions:

-its very unfair to compare those 2 images. 1 is ISO 800 and the other is ISO 320. if u wanna compare, use the same exposure settings.

- personally, i prefer high iso performance to IS/VR/AS. under some situations (for e.g. celebrities performance, sports, etc...), the stabilization would not help u get a sharp image as u would need a high shutter speed if lighting is insufficient.

- to overcome my own handshakes, i can always bring a monopod to stabilize the camera, no doubt less convinient. to each his own
