Fuji S6500fd

I only got to know of Fuji's night capabilities after the F30 was released and I got one for other half. I have been a Canon user and after toying with the F30, I am sold on its ISO!

I am thinking of trading in my 6 mth old Canon IS3 for the coming S6500...it is a good move? I dun mind trading the extra X2 zoom and the swivel LCD for the chance to take decent night shots without the flash.

The problem for the 6500fd is that it is using XD card.
Bit diff to get & price is higher compared to CF & SD.

The xD card is a one time cost so it will not be a hinderance but I am keen on the 6500 based on what i experienced with the F30 (same CCD sensor) not a given that the 6500 will give a corresponding performance (altho i think it shd, waiting for reviews to be out)

Considering getting the 6500fd, S9600 (release date in Spore maybe in Oct/Nov) or FZ50.
It's a pity that the fuji digicam does not have image stabilizer.....

Thot the F30/S6500fd has the picture stabilizer ??
(think it is software-based, not hardware-based)

So it's still a good buy if the high ISO noise is very low.......

It is not an Image Stabilizer in the true sense of the word in that it ramps up the ISO in low light so that it uses a higher shutter speed rather than employing an optical stabiliser like the other brands do.

Does D50/E300/IstDs kits give u the range from 28-300mm with up to ISO3200? :nono:

How much do u need to fork out for a D50 + 18-200mm VR lens? and u are still short for 100mm..

can't compare like that...anyway 200mm is equiv to 300mm for a d50, so why is there still a short? + you get VR.

gd thing about dSLR is when one like a wider view, he/she can switch to a ultra wide such as 12-24 which gives a 18mm view where as camera such as s6500 only give you 28mm. attaching a convert might help, but the distortion and quality is definitely much worse than a dSLR with a 12-24 lens.

D50 = 1.5x lens factor

18-200mm lens equivalent to bout 27-300mm.

If you are referring to that flower shaped thing on the end of the lens - that is a lenshood. It reduces lens flare.

Thank you very much. I'm waiting anxiously for this cam to be launch. :)

You're welcome. I'm looking forward to it's launch too.

Hi guys, saw this model retailing at $699 at Harvey Funan. It does comes with a few freebies, but because I am rushing, did not get to see what are the free items. ;)

I'm interested in buying this camera too. Mind sharing how much you paid for it? What comes with it for the price?

i also quite interested in this camera too.
Btw, avo can post some pics taken by the S6500fd. Tks

given the over 10x zoom, wonder if the lack of IS will be sorely missed....

So cheap only.

May be time for me to upgrade from my Nikon 5700 prosumer cam to this S6500fd before I think more seriously into upgrading to DSLR (which is much more cumbersome to carry around and maintain ........ I dread it.).

I prefer the S6500fd to the S9500/9600 because I expect the S6500fd to have lower noise at higher ISO because it has less pixels (6MP vs 9MP). (That could be why the S6500fd has up to ISO 3200 while the S9500/9600 has only up to ISO 1600)

What was the exact price you piad and what does your package include?

given the over 10x zoom, wonder if the lack of IS will be sorely missed....

The actual focal length at 10.7x zoom is about 66mm only.

So shooting at 1/60 or faster handheld at max. zoom should still be ok if you have reasonably steady hands.

This means no problem in most outdoor shots as it's quite bright.

As for indoor shots, if the proper exposure is 1/15 @ISO 200, then you could pump up the ISO to 800 and shoot at 1/60. The advantage is that you can avoid too much motion blur when shooting at 1/60 vs 1/15.

If avoiding motion blur is paramount, then you would need at least 1/125 or faster. In such cases where shutter speed is the priority, having good low noise performance is better than having IS because the former may enable you to shoot with a shutter speed above 1/125 while the latter does nothing to the shutter speed. For example, if an indoor shot at max. zoom (66mm) requires 1/15 @ISO 100, then you could shoot at 1/15@ISO 100 if you have IS or shoot at 1/125 @ISO800 if you have good noise performance. The 1/15@ISO 100 shot with IS has better details but 1/15 may have motion blur which you do want.

If you're shooting at the short side of the zoom (the actual focal length is only slightly more than 6mm when it's 28mm equivalent on 35mmm format), the IS is not required in most situations except very dark conditions (which may be better just use the flash instead if there is no restriction).

To me, S6500fd is a better choice than cameras like Canon S3 IS which has terrible noise performance at ISO 200 and 400.

Called CP Marina they quote me $675 with a 512MB XD card. The guy told me that beside the XD card there are no other freebies.
