my personal opinions:

-its very unfair to compare those 2 images. 1 is ISO 800 and the other is ISO 320. if u wanna compare, use the same exposure settings.

- personally, i prefer high iso performance to IS/VR/AS. under some situations (for e.g. celebrities performance, sports, etc...), the stabilization would not help u get a sharp image as u would need a high shutter speed if lighting is insufficient.

- to overcome my own handshakes, i can always bring a monopod to stabilize the camera, no doubt less convinient. to each his own

his money, his reasoning, his camera...he already bought the camera, whaddya want him to say?

likewise i sold my S3IS after trying borrowing my friends F30 for a wk. Now I know what noise is...

ut ur right abt apple to apple comparison, u need to use same ISO. Then again ,many digicam review sites showing the obvious difference.

oh, i got the pics from this frenchie site that compares comparable photos of nearly all cameras... it's not out to champion one brand/model over another.

Anyway, i've the F30 as well.. good compact.. that's why i was enticed by the 6500fd, particularly for the lens.. but i simply couldn't get a good pic at AP (they allowed me to print on the spot) and the fellow kept saying that it's because their printing machine doesn't high res pic files to print... man, that's a first for me...

I guess IS is good feature to have on hand to complement high ISO features of a camera.. can always turn on or off. I just found it too uncomfortable to not have that option with the 6500fd.

I'll still get a 6600fd(?), hopefully x12 zoom.. hehehe... but only if it comes with some form of IS. Personal preference and insurance lah..

Just as I suspected.

The light condition in the shop and in shopping centre etc. will surely require a very slow shutter speed. If you didn't open your aperture wide and also pump up the ISO, you're sure to get handshake blur if the camera is without an image stabiliser.

Also keep in mind that motion blur is something which the IS is of no help but high ISO can sometimes solve the problem.
thanks..

i did use their special super duper picture stabilisation mode.. but alas......

oh.. and there was no motion blur to content with.. 2 of the employees stood still, perhaps 2-3 metres away under bright lights... the sales assistant took the pic.. Maybe his skill like mine lah.. both jia lut... (he took over after he saw how i took crappy shots.. haha).

Hey, but 6500fd owners should be great photographers.. am sure they'd have good results.

make a quick check
how much the camera cost now?

Any new owners of S6500fd ready to post some pics? :)

In shops, the light condition is such that the shutter speed @F/2.8 ISO 100 required to get a reasonable exposure is usually much slower than 1/8. Even if you don't zoom in, the shortest focal length on S6500fd is slightly over 6mm which means you would need shutter speed of at least 1/8 or faster to be handheld and avoid handshake blur without any image stabiliser. Usually it means you need to shoot at ISO 800 or above.

When there is no motion and the light condition is not dark like in a concert, an image stabiliser would be useful. Otherwise, you would discover that an image stabiliser is of little use when compared to good low noise at very high ISO. (That explains why the Fujifilm F10/F11/F30 have been selling like hot cakes when compared to other point and shoot with image stabiliser).

anyway, waiting for samples... unless not many ppl bot this?

Unfortunately even with image stabilisation, the performance of the H5 is nowhere near that of the S6500 at high ISOs and this is not just my opinion. :(
Check out the comparisons at various ISOs here:

Oh, played around with the H5 yesterday am... http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost.php?p=2519283&postcount=17

Am satisfied with the IS at the telephoto angle.. esp with my hand quivering (shakes are so obvious on the LCD screen when u max the zoom.. hehe).

oh, some shots here in comparison with the 5600.

Both at ISO 400... not a lab comparison hor...

I held one in my hands yesterday, it wasn't working but - no batteries.
But is solidly built, equal to that of the D70s I used to have.
It was a decent size - not too small yet not too bulky.

Wish I could have tried it with batteries but the store assistant didn't look too helpful and I wasn't buying so I didn't want to push my luck.

anyone know how much is S6500fd and S9500 current selling price ?

S6500 FD shld be $699 with 1GB XD card + bag (i think is Lowepro) + lucky draw ...(from MS) ...did not find out how much for S9600 ....was at MS to check out S6500 & canon 800IS ...the face detection of 800IS works very well ...after focus, it locks on & follows the face!! ....interface was much easier however at high ISO, it was rather noisy .... for S6500 face detection did not lock on after focus (maybe i was not familar??), at high ISO it was much better (no surprize as it is using the same sensor as F30)....all this observation was view thru the repective LCD ...did not have a chance to download ...maybe will bring laptop to test further ....

p/S : the above 2 cameras are basically targeted on different group ...
800IS is small & pocketable whereas S6500 is bulit more like a SLR ...they are similar only both offers 28 mm and face detection technology and both came out at the same time.....;)

Noticed that very very few ppl are posting sample pics taken from this camera. So, allow me to (hopefully) kickstart.

I'm quite impressed with this camera and a very happy owner after selling off my PANA FZ20:( .
