Anyway, where did you get the 1200 Euro price?

Having the 5700 @ such a high price will put it in a different range compared to the 602. Comparing it with the Sony 707, Dimage 7i will be fairer.

Look, don't get me wrong. I know they are in different product range / category... I was not even comparing them.... what I'm saying is that there's a new option which, to those who can afford, may be more worth for the money they're spending.

Anyway, I've been scrimming dpreview.com's preview... and I still couldn't find that Euro 1200 that Jeff mentioned. This page has a ? on the Street Price info (it may be on the forum pages, but I haven't looked into that yet). Hopefully, the price difference won't be that much... a $500 difference between CP 5700 and S602Z would be "ideal" and "within my budget". :D

Peace on earth! :)

Pinoy, here're some discussions on the price:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1007&message=2770923

anyway, if you're interested, the prereviews of the 5700 have sprung up at all the major review sites. Think the camera is great.... for people who can afford it. I feel it's probably positioned (and priced accordingly) against professional SLRs like the Olympus E20N.

i went to AP at cityhall yesterday to ask about the 602.. got chided by the shopkeeper.. "why buy the 602? wait for 603 lah !"

apparently the dealer told him there's going to be a 603 coming out in 3 mths time after the launch of 602.. even told me G2 now everywhere out of stock... G5 coming up.. suspected to be 5 MPx.. but looking at current trends.. i think both the rumoured models are going to cost at least $1700 anyway.. along with the 707 and 7i

can anyone confirm ?

? we might never know. My guess is that manufacturers now will do a "Nikon" and keep everything under wraps and then released the news. They do not want to affect the sales of their current models for sure.

Thanks. Looks like it's gonna be a big disappoinment price-wise for me. I was hoping for max of $2K.. but alas, that may well not be.

Anyway, I still have until end of this year to get a new digicam. Hopefully some price swings will be on the way :D

:Later,

no advert today on the S602Z..... was looking for it and a little disappointed. maybe tomorrow ;p

The stocks are not in yet @ AP hopefully by today

hmm.. you know anyplace that may sell it using instalment payment ? might be more affordable to me that way..
how much for the additional telephoto and wide angle original Fuji lenses?

another question.. with these add on lenses.. do the numbers (1.5x) add up or multiply with the camera or existing setup ?

so the camera without digizoom is 6x.. with the telephoto, does it become 7.5x or 9x ?

For the telephoto, you multiple. ;)

hmm multiple to become 9x ?? Wow.. okie.. sounds really really good liao..

i heard ppl say the Fuji original telephoto lens for 602 is very good.. but i find the 1.5x like quite little.. are there other options that are just as good quality but has more stronger zoom ? can tell me the price also ?

thanks !

Yes, for zoom factor you multiply. For close-up magnification, you add.

So far, the high quality Olympus B300 (1.7x) is not bad an investment. But its bulky and rather expensive at $200++.

hmm. so far all the telephotos are like sub 1x increment.. are there more ? like 2x, 3x, 4x ?

how good with the shots be? will there be any distortion ? lets say i used a strong telephoto zoom when sitting at the spectator stand during NDP to take pictures of the participants in the field.. will the pictures be clear assuming other factors like focus, exposure etc all ok ?

other qn.. i've handled the 602, but sad to say i never asked about the attachment lenses.. how to attach ? there's no screw thread that i saw.. the closes thing to the end of the lens is the manual focusing ring. are there pictures ?

you handled it in the stores today? there's an adaptor that needs to be fixed to the lens barrel before you can fix on filters/lenses.

there're few good teleconverters around. many claim to be 2x or more only to be less in reality. distortion or not would depend on how good the teleconverter is. It's hard to find cheap teleconverters for a big lens camera like S602Z cos the cost will be high.

pardon my ignorance, but what's the big deal about a 3MP DC with internal interpolation to 6MP??

more optical zoom, okay? what else??

resolution better than 4MP G2 or 4MP C4040?? not so from what i m reading from dpreview......

cheaper ?? not really also from i read here......

i understand G2 /C4040 is going less than S$1300.....

check out azone's post near the end of the following page:
http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3434&perpage=40&pagenumber=4

anyway, the resolution approaches that of the G2 or C4040 (refer to the resolution charts). it's a good buy for people wanting big zoom, good manual controls (manual focus ring), occasional video taking, fast focus and low shutter lag.

IMHO, except for questionable image quality, the 602 is every way on par or even better than the G2. faster lags, convenient AA batteries, similar long battery life, better colour reproduction.

I also like where the tripod is screwed unto the camera.. just below the barrel.. so i think the shots will be quite level coz the it's at the centre of the weight distribution ?

For me, selecting a digital cam doesn't solely depends on only the zoom and resolution (A 5mp cam for me will only means more money plonked into buying storage media). There is no perfect cam here. It all depends on whether the price and features fits individual's requirements and preferences. ;)

The S602 to me is a cam that dun incur much additional costs, like buying teleconvertors, expensive proprietary batts, etc. Haha, I'm a cheapskate. :D
