The CF so expensive meh?

:Later,

i m not saying fuji digital camera is no good, i m just surprise it caught so much attention here in clubsnap.... 14 pages already.....and still going strong.....

i would just like to point out that there are many contenders in this category like the C4040/G2/CP5000, etc....

Tweek,
i don't agree that 602z can be compared to any 6mp camera.... dpreview also say so... at best comparable to 4MP camera only.... camera interpolation for the C4040 is 3200x2400 i.e. 7.68MP, but i never thought it to be a 7.68MP camera.... and i wouldn't use it.....prefer to save space on the SM and let my PS do that kind of work....

mpenza,
i the purpose of higher MP is for bigger prints, a 2MP camera can satisfy most ppl who wants to print 4R at near 300dpi......if you aren't likely to print big, then of course save the money on something more useful.....

just my two cents .......:rbounce:

I'm planning my purchases liao
Code:
> Camera - $1260
> Telephoto Lens -
> Lens Adapter -
> Rayovac Charger - $49.90
> Additional 2 Rayovac AA Batts - $9.90
> 256 MB CF - $220

256MB CF should cost only ~$195 at Alan Photo.

Its not surprising as s602 fits the extremely flexible camera category, providing a function for almost all type of shooting situations, the class including mainly the Sony f707, minolta D7 and the forthcoming nikon 5700. It is also the cheapest of its class by a few 100s of dollars with the potential to crank up quality nearer to its higher MP competitors with a bit of PS work with the competitors suffering some deficiencies in one area or another.

no problem :) The thread has grown big cos it's the only major discussion on the camera and we didn't post all over the places ;p if you look elsewhere (e.g. dpreview's forums) you'll see much more threads on the camera.

The interpolation on the C4040 is different from that on the S602Z though. Design of the superCCD allows additional details to be captured using interpolation. For normal CCDs, no additional details are captured and the resolution essentially remains the same.

Ok :D I came to my conclusions by comparing the sample pics side by side. As mpenza pointed out, the s602z interpolation is different from other cameras, which only effectively "upsize" the image. The honeycomb structure of the s602z superCCD can capture more details thus the 6MP interpolation is much better than doing it in photoshop. Of course, it can't be compared to an actual 6MP CCD, but the results are quite good to me. :)

These are just my opinions too. :) If you haven't seen the s602z's sample pics, go take a look if you have the time kay?

Tweak, have you decided whether to go for it? ;p if not, you could consider getting it in US too. Might be able to get good discounts if you order online and have it deliver to the place you stay.

I have decided to get it, but my pocket seems to think otherwise leh. :D This major trip is gonna cost me my life, so the camera has to be put on hold for some time. If I do get a bursary that I'm applying for (results out in June), then there's a higher chance that I can get it, though I'm half-hearted to use it to pay off the debts resulting from this US trip too. See how loh, in the meantime, my c700uz still serves me well. Also want to let the s602z mature a little first, in case there are first-shipment-problems etc, and also to allow the accessories like the 3rd party lens adaptor to become more available first. Last but not least, waiting for the price to drop below $1200, hehe.

So most probably won't be ordering even in the states. It will be quite hard too cos I won't be staying put in one place (you never know when the shipment will come), and there are enough of stories of scams and lousy service when it comes to online ordering in the US.

how bout you, when are you getting yours? ;)

Likely to be next week. Get it while hot ;p

Enjoy your trip! And take lots of pics to show us :)

Tweek : You getting bursary to buy camera ??? !!!!!

Many people cannot study because of not enough money.

Please use the bursary wisely and not indulge into your own interest.

My 2 cents.
Correct me if I'm wrong in any ways.

Yup I know, the bursary was originally intended to help clear my debts. It's an internal bursary not opened to the public, only within a certain organisation (which I won't name). There is always this temptation to spend part of it on the camera lor, but like you said, it makes more ethical sense to spend it wisely. In any case, I am under a lot of conscience pressure to use it to clear my debts instead. Thanks for your reminder! ;)

thanks mpenza and azone. I prepared 328mb of SMC for my photos, hope I don't run out of memory then. See ya guys in 1 month's time!

hmm.. you know anyplace that may sell it using instalment payment ? might be more affordable to me that way..
So far only big shops like Harvey Norman, Best Denki etc. provides interest free installment plans and that is through Credit Cards. As you know it's gonna cost more as these shops sell by the suggested retail price.

Right now I'm clearing my cards a bit... but not buying a digicam so soon (unless the S602Z will impress me a lot later today... coz my friend's gonna be bringing it over in my place)... still looking at the possibility of owning the CP5700 :) since it may well be selling for less than $2k after all.

:Later,

These are pics I took with A40 , not as much zoom as 602z but do have a look and comment. I use tripod to take these photos and the shutter speed is around 5-6s. Some photo slant because of ground un even.

Collected mine @ AP yesterday afternoon I am very impressed with the 602 (did not previously own one but played with a couple). Have the things I like in a DC, big zoom, good grip, nice EVF and many more. Got the 52-55mm adapter for the Hoyo UV filter & a 1GB IBM microdrive.

Still playing around with the controls and reading the manual.
Was shocked for a while when the manual mentioned that it will only take SM media & Microdrive. What about CF?? Maybe I am only over-reacting as they may assume compability on Microdrive/CFII means it will be able to take CF I cards. :)

It'll take CF I cards, you can read about Dave's tests with some cards at http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/F602/F62A7.HTM

I think Fuji doesn't recommend CF cards because most of them cannot keep up with the write speeds the S602 needs, esp for the movie mode.

How much did you pay for the S602? $1260? Does it come with any freebies?
