FUJI Large Sensor Compact

It shud be near the price of an m43 with a 20f1.7. The X100 has class and looks, solid build and straight cut operation that suits people who prefer to shoot in shutter or aperture priority and M mode with very clear buttons positioning. There will be companions to this, like a 35f1.4 and a 50f1.4 versions. Good times are here again.

I sure hope the estimated price of Y1500000 (USD$1750) is a wild overestimate (although with a mag chassis and apparently real leather I think Fuji is shooting for the high-end consumer). At that price I can just about get a Leica X1! Which will at the very least hold its value better by sheer dint of the fact that it is a Leica....

yeah that's what i thought when I saw the price... the Leica will be a better buy if its just $200-300 more. and it seems the X1 is a little smaller? (or not?)

BUT, kudos to fuji for opening up a market for this. i'm sure the competition will be fierce is the response is good

 Retro FTW !

I am poisoned now! So so wanted to try and have it now!

all compact rangefinders from the 50s through the 70s came with fixed focal length lenses ..... and they sold VERY well...

they for sure won't be pricing it low... they are not that stupid.

do take note they would need to get the sensor customized with the offset microlenses on the sensor and that kind of R&D/specialized manufacturing won't come cheap. if anything, they will need to price it higher for 1st generation products... maybe 3rd gen onwards then you will see substantial price reductions.

also, the hybrid VF has quite a bit of work in it. they will for sure try to price it in - no one else in the market has something like that. in truth, i applaud x100 for the excellence in the retro design.

i doubt they will see the x100 as inferior to the x1, so they will try to price it just slightly cheaper.

take note that this is a niche product, they are not marketing it to the masses. the masses will ask, why no zoom... what for have VF... what is the aperture ring for...

this is targeted to people who lives with a FF camera and looking for a portable street/ambient camera. or people who are rangefinder centric and has yet to find a good digital solution.

my ballpark price is 1.8k-2.2k SGD. any lesser, they have priced it too low and any higher would go head-to-head with leica x1.

so many of such 'i love' threads in all the photography forums has assured fuji they can price it to the roof! quick, say its a bad product and only a fool wants a fixed focal length! maybe then price will be more flexible...

pretty much appealing to the leica crowd who has deep pockets. perhaps with this new product, fuji has declared they want a portion (even if its just a small percentage) of the leica small body market.

knowing im such a sucker, i sure buy one when its readily available.

There's just so much hype about this camera! Steve huff is talking about it, the rangefinder sub forum also has a similarly long thread on it. Everyone can't wait for the release and many people will get it despite the pricing above $2k... its a sexy camera, Super EBC Fujinon, lovely viewfinder... certainly, its not a camera for everyone but there'll be a bigger than niche market for it!

I will dump my whole system for this one. And hope they come up with companions, 35f1.4 and 50f1.4. Then, I can go round the world and don't have to worry about size. weight, IQ, convenience. Best is the retro style and operation, don't have to figure out where all the hidden functions are.

can't wait for Mar 2011! buy buy buy!!!

 :cheergal:  :cheergal:

Hooray. About the price of the 60D body.

Wow! This is great!!!

Even though it is not my type of camera, kudo to Fuji for announcing such a surprising (in a good way) camera.

ouch.......must really see the quality to decide whether it is worth it or not.

If final production version is without front filter thread on the lens (not talking about silly adapter tubes) it would be a BIG mistake.
