hi, this is bokeh1.8, a student photographer learning the arts of wedding photography.. wanted to do some practical works by offering free photography services for couples. (I will be covering your wedding shoots, but no prints will be provided.. a digital version will be given instead) interested please PM me or contact me at 91499113 for more details. thanks!

Talk about spoiling the market, talk about irresponsibility, talk about going about it the wrong way!!!

If you are that bad that you need to give free service to shoot, you should not be shooting. You should not put the newly wed picture at risk, since you are inexperience to a point that you have to give free service to shoot.

If you want to learn wedding photography, find a professional wedding photographer and assist him/her!

Man, CS is really getting to become the dumping ground for free services. I pity the real professional, trying to make a living, I look down with conciet to the customers, who only cares about the price and not the quality.

:nono: tsk tsk... not the way to go...

pls do the couple justice....a wedding is only once in a lifetime...in most cases..

Remember, it is only ok if you give free service to photographers here.
Models who give free service to photographers are also welcome.
People who want to give free equipment away also welcome.
Studio owners who let us use free studio equipment also welcome.

dear bokeh1.8,

if you want to learn the arts of wedding photography,

first, make sure you know all the basic of photography
second, find someone experience in wedding photography to mentor you.

what you are doing now is not good to yourself and the wedding couples,
wedding day photography is far more than just photography, if you may not familiar with the wedding customs, rituals, etc, is just like the blind leading another blind.

and if you are the secondary photographer to another photographer which you have not work before, you may fighting with him to get the shots.

couples may hire you because of "great saving", but not knowing risking their lifetime memories for this, by the time they realize what they have done will by to late to undo it.

If in the end, no one will benefit from what you are doing, so please think about it again.

Actually you post at wrong website lah. Down here almost everyone is a photographer. They sure get pissed off.

There is no wrong or right. But humans are have got the territorial and competitive instinct so you should learn to be sensitive to that.

You want to post, should post at other non-photography related forums.

Everyone started somewhere... If you want to buildup your porfoilo, maybe you should start from assistanting some photographers and keep some images for your showcase.
Just wonder  every time when an newcomer want to try the market and start offering free services... People will take photographer for granted as there will be always free services ...
:dunno:

ASK your friends.... if they need your service.
That could be a better start into wedding photography.
There's not much risk.

I have actually training on photojournalism, but I haven't got a chance to shoot practical yet.. okay. sorry once again, if you pro dai gors think that I am spoiling the market and snatching the ricebowl and stuff.

cheers!

regards,

What others and myself have suggested could let you learn faster and better, not really worry about you snatching our ricebowls.

Anyway, if any wedding couples would go for the free photography service, it will not willing to pay for pro works, is either "free photography service" or "DIY with point and shoot". so what can you snatch is another "free service" photographers opportunity only.

There is a difference between photojournalism and wedding photography. It does not mean that when u know a bit, u can do it. I have been shooting general events for years and yet I cannot say for sure that I can master the art of wedding photography. It is the mood, style and presentation that makes a difference. I have seen enough photographers whether experienced or inexperienced photographers spoiling the photos of wedding couples. Please dun add to the list.

Before I start out doing weddings, I actually have to follow my friends for a few sessions until I am confident. This is despite my years of covering event shoots. Therefore, please be sensible.

Another thing. By offering free services, u are also spoiling your own future market.

Ah ... photografree!

heng dai... no worries lar.

just don't post openly here like that, sure kena one.

try to find couples who don't mind having a spare photographer (they should already have their own main photographer) and shoot as a back up to learn. there's no way you would be able to do a good job (paid or free) if you haven't had enough experience, thereby risking destroying the memories for the couple. :)

at last, some commendable comments

Hey Bokeh,

I'm no expert, but I think you will have a much more positive response to your offer if you put up a post like this on Singapore Brides forum instead.

However, if you plan on being a professional wedding photographer, I think you're missing the point. This is how the game of wedding photography works. Your aim- to get paid as much as possible for the work you want to do.

To get to shoot a wedding for free is very very easy. Getting good at the craft of wedding photography, a little harder but certainly attainable. Getting paid a whole lots of money to do your craft the way you see it, that's the hard part and that's where you want to consider your various option.

There's many ways to "go professional" without having to lose money doing it, and believe me, shooting weddings for free is going to cost you money you may never recoup or take many years to do it.

If you're interested, why don't you send me an email and I'll see how I can help you get your foot into the industry.

There are people who are really broke who can barely afford the wedding, so they have no budget for wedding dinner or pro photgrapher. Maybe your offer can help some of these couples. Problem is in Spore, sometimes even the rich will queue up for feebies. :bsmilie:
