Formula Drift Singapore 2010 (24 - 25 Apr 2010)

errrrr no leh, the ND filter will require a larger aperture for a given shutter speed, so you have a shallower DOF and avoid going into the f/22 range and suffer from diffraction. f/5.6 is a larger aperture than f/8 btw

Ah ok. For some reason I thought it was related to post #14 pics, which were F20-32. They look good though :)

"all shot using shutter priority 1/50s and he let the camera work out what is the aperture for correct exposure f20-f32".

I tried using my ND2-400 filter yesterday. The only problem is it's too big to fit my hood on

Hmm... I don't know why my post got deleted while darrelltan's didn't, but if anyone wants to help get this pair of grandstand tickets off my hands at $65 please sms/call --------. Thanks. **sold**

Thank you. Hope the weekend gets good weather for picture taking.

So sorry to ask a silly question here.. Which types of ND filter is enough for the event? *I've never used a ND filter before* Please advise.

Repeat after me
- I don't need any ND Filter for shooting at this event

Yeah it's not necessary. ND filter just reduces the light entering the lens, forcing you to decrease your shutter speed (aperture priority) or increasing your aperture (shutter priority).

example:
no ND: 1/50s, F16
with ND: 1/50s, F8

The difference will be the DOF, more background blur with the ND.

If you look at post #14, those pics are quite nice at F20-32, I believe no filters used.

last yr i shot without nd filter, the pics are a bit soft viewed at 100% due to the diffraction. an extremely small aperture will also make the dust spots on the sensor become quite prominent, so i spent some time cloning out a few dust spots as well. so i'm trying with a nd4 filter this yr, which will cut 2 stops, so become about f11-f16. it also depends on the weather, with the gloomy skies recently, maybe the nd filter is not necessary, but i will bring along anyway.

Any idea what time we can have access to shoot the models? ;)

noobie heading down with D90 + Tamron 18-270, i believe reach should be enough...

for drifting, which AF mode should i use? AF-A or AF-C?

from the advices, i would use shutter priorty at 1/50... any other magical settings?

thanks

Recgonise her? She was in town for SIN 2009

Good Luck guys, I gotta be there for both days.... Too bad I might not have time for the car races.... Assignment to capture the event for one of the sponsors. Most likely to be capturing the bosses than the gals....

Enjoy the moment~

Anybody scared and worried it might rain those days? :(
Where can check weather forecast?

Weather forecast for Singapore always says overcast with chance of rain :bsmilie:
iPhone weather shows: scattered thunderstorms, 26-32c fri/sat/sun/mon/tues

It all depends on your technique, but generally you would use AF-C for panning.
I would also suggest trying faster shutter speed to begin with, and bring it down after some practise, otherwise you might find all your shots are blurred with 1/50sec because it requires perfect motion tracking at that shutter speed. I practised on street cars, and it was quite challenging

Does anyone know if you can take the circle line to Promenade station for the event? It's much closer than walking from City Hall

I just checked the website:
http://www.formuladrift.com.sg/directions.php

It does say Promenade for MRT (it opened last weekend). :D
If you go to streetdirectory.com, you can see Promenade right near the Flyer, it's closer than Esplanade.

FYI: Helix bridge is opening at 4pm tomorrow too.
