Why not? It's a worthwhile discussion, especially with the recommendations from some NGOs to bring foreign workers under the Employment Act. It's amazing that it's taken this long to provide "recommendations" the the ministries to review the employment act for foreign workers. We'll see if any steps are taken to improve the benefits and living conditions for foreign workers here in Singapore.

Yes we have come to a stage that we look at everybody. They are a group of workers we depend upon to do the job we do not like yet we reject them.

So does everybody have suggession to replace them with? Robot?

The pay increase depends on your performance or do you want everybody to get the same pay?
Keep yourself as healthy as possible. Go for class 3 if hospitalised.
Cycle to work and you don't have to pay for anything. At the same time it keeps you healthy.
Nothing is free in this world. You either pay them directly or indirectly.

All subsidy comes from tax... do you propose an increase in tax so that you will be subsidied in anything and everything you buy.(service and kinds)

Problem surely have. it is how you solve it.

Men creates problem and men have to solve it.

You cannot have the best of the both world!

It would be idea to have:

No foreign workers and nobody construct the building for us.
Rubbish not collected as no foreign workers can stay in Singapore
No production in factory as no foreign workers allow in as they have no place to stay
Nobdoy to prune the tree and plants as there will be no foreign worker

How to solve with all those hikessssssssss coming to fall on you and your family ?

You know all other jobs you mention are done by locals ?

Why ft now ?

U are right.... but these job locals dont like to do... so?

Wrong these jobs now are Underpay for locals to tap in .

wrong, its CONSIDERED to be under-paying by locals because they expect a higher standard of living. as i've mentioned somewhere before, if the pay for such jobs at the bottom of the work pyramid(no offense, i'm only refering to amount of workers per category, not skills per se), then the cost of everything else will have to go up in order to maintain margins. Which will lead to an even higher cost of living, more complaints, and then suddenly the "higher pay" is considered underpaying again.

Is Singapore unique in the way we let in foreign worker? Don't recall seeing so much in countries like UK, US, Aust. I am refering more to manual job worker.

salaries are part of business costs. not increasing salaries does not stem the tide of price increases, any increase in cost for businesses are most likely passed on to consumers.

in the face of an ever increasing cost of living, can a local afford to live decently (without the need for cash handout/rebates/discounts)? that i have not even factor in minimal savings for emergancy medical bills due to illness/accidents amounting to hospitalisation,.. den there's retirement?
