Feedback on new Personal Classified sections

I just found out you can get the "upz" effect by sorting by last post. It is an extra click but den it make me easier to see which thread is being updated all at one go or is still active

Yes and it is the solution for the 'upz' and 'bump' problems.. thanks again

:cheergal:Many thanks to our Moderators for much needed changes to these Buy&Sell sections.

With regards to Thread Starters editing their own threads, I would like Moderators to see if my suggestion works (that is, if this system can be tweaked in such a way)...

Make the 1st posting special by having 2 sections: 1st section fixed, 2nd section editable.

For instance:
- 1st section contain all the usual info like Category, Equipment Type/Brand/Model etc until Additional Comments.
- 2nd section contain Updates (a sizeable editable box for additional info, pictures & price changes with date of update clearly shown) and Status (a set of 2 radio buttons showing "Outstanding" & "Sold/Closed"). Make this section editable only by Thread Starter. Only when status is marked Sold/Closed can the system auto-close the thread. This idea is similar to the original Yahoo Auction system where initial description cannot be edited but can only be added on.

Another suggestion (that is, if this system can be tweaked in such a way) is to allow Thread Starter the liberty to post his PM messages as Replies to the thread concerned, together with his own comments. Nobody can post any replies but can PM TS with questions or comments. TS can post these replies when someone ask him questions via PM. This idea is similar to the ebay system of seller posting buyers questions with replies.

Just my 2 frames worth.. :)

thanks mods for taking hte time and effort to make shopping on CS much easier. i'm sure my gf will love it that i am more likely to part with my money!
((=

just one suggestion: would it make more sense to categorise according to mounts instead? The main reason is for the third-party lenses and flashes. As a canon user, i'm just going to browse the canon section and maybe look at the 3rd party one rarely because it's got a lot of 'garbage' that is not relevant to me.

how about sorting according to mounts, so we have:

Canon Compatible -- includes Canon lenses, and third party lenses and flashes
Nikon Compatible -- includes nikon lenses and compatible 3rd party ones
Sony
Pentax
Olympus
Other systems (MF, RF, video)
Accessories

hopefully this will make it easier for everyone!

Update Update.

Due to popular demand (and because we just found a way to do it much more easily than anticipated), we have made the following changes to the Personal Classifieds sections.

1) Threadstarters can now reply to their own threads to update the thread.
2) The list of classified threads are now sorted according to the thread created time (and not the last post time) thus posting a reply will not bump up the thread, negating the effect of posting an UPz post.

Enjoy!

Edit and Reminder (because we already noticed a couple of UPz posts) : Posting a reply WILL NOT bump your thread up in the section listing.

Hmmm, so if our sale/buy thread go far back pages.. We can only re-post the whole
thread again to stay infront for potential buyer/seller to notice?

I think the idea is to stop these upz and bringing threads up again and again? :P

I have to say, previous B&S system with too many ups (saw one forumer like ups every one hour!) is quite annoying and not fair to others.

i tink the upz button should be instilled...like mayb make it unavailable for 24hrs from the time yu pressed...if mods want to make it look like classified on newspaper..this will be almost like it becuz advertisers on newspaper also post their advertisments almost every single day till it is sold or till he does not want to sell anymore...

juz my 2cents =)

I think Upz in general is annoying :P

If everyone does that then we will be back to old days.
If no one does that then there is no need to re-post actually. Now it is very easy to go through the posts one by one actually.

but it wont be if it was limited to 24hrs per press...juz like as if it was on the newspaper...

There is a slight difference between a searchable forum compared to read-and-discard prints

The general mindset must change. I feel it's the kiasuism in us that compels us to make sure our thread is on the first page. This would also influence buyers to view the latest posts. But when the upping is restricted, I'm sure the buyer's viewing habit would change as well.

If you really wan 1st page all the time... get an ad loh...hahaha :bsmilie:

Btw seems an upz on the older threads brings them up even in the new section :(

The old system is good enough.... why change ...

now we wont know wether there are genuine offers or not. :/

i was wondering when would the Personal Classifieds section be added to the Forum Jump bar at the bottom right corner of the screen? its quite a hassle to access the Classifieds at the moment without that function in place.

1) Is there a guaranteed way in which the TS cannot 'upz?' Or else the same problem will be back.

2) If readers cannot post, it lacks transparency because: Other readers cannot see an ongoing bid.
No one knows who offered BNP first, except the TS.
TS can thus discretely choose who he wants to sell the equipment to.
Equipment may not be reserved based on 1st come 1st serve.

:thumbsd: I personally don't quite like the new format. It is too much of a hassle, confusing and not user-friendly. For example if I wanted to search for a camera body of any brand for sale, I will have to scroll through all the irrelevant items as well such as lenses, flashes, etc. On top of that I will also have to click through all the treads of different brands to repeat the whole process again. IMHO the old format is much better, logical and easier to make reference to. Please revert to the former format if possible .

why would someone wants to search across different brands at the same time?

Anyway, if you really want to search...isn't it better if you use the advance search function? :dunno:

Feedback to Admins.

I tried searching "F717" in the Sony section using 2 search method. 1st is using the "Search Forum" on the top right cell. 2nd is the advance search function where I defined all dates.

But it only turn out 2 result.... a scan through the section actually have the below thread not listed.

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=385698

Noting that the thread titled 717 (without the F). But searching for "717" yield no matches.

Also to add... a "30D" search at Canon section have no match at all.

I hope the search function could be improved, else people will just find another way to get "attention".
