Feedback on new Personal Classified sections

The new categorisation is good.

Banning replies has its good and bad, like mentioned in earlier feedback. Is it possible to let the seller decide whether to allow replies when he posts? This way, those who don't want replies in the thread should be allowed to ban replies (except their own updates). Those who would like open transparent bidding can have it as well.

When the mod/admin moved thread from old section to the new ones, are the post taking the new or old date/time?

Had a feeling it is taking current time/date. If this is so, it will create a huge influx of new ads. If I am to post some ads now, it will soon be push down by those "moved" thread. Which might already been concluded.

Here's my take:

Good:
Categorised by brand. Excellent!

To reconsider:
Cannot reply to thread, leading to:
Not able to update if item has been sold or not, price change, etc.
PM box may be filled too fast?
Lack of transparency?
How to up the thread? Alternative may be to spam the section multiple times?

IMO, let the TS decide whether to allow replies or not. I've done quite a number of transactions under the old system (can reply, but cannot edit replies), and have had no complaints about it. If it ain't broke, there's no need to fix it.

Threads moved from the old section retain their last posted date/time, thus it will not push existing (new) threads down.

I like the new system, I think it's easier to find items quickly.

The problem is mentioned by a lot of users about not being able to update the thread by seller.
I know we're concerned about Upz war, space and bandwidth etc.

If we rely every inquiry on PM, PM box will fill up really fast (esp for new members with limited
PM space), and a pain to regularly delete the old PMs.

So my suggestion is don't "UP" the thread every time someone posts, but allow reply postings.
List the threads in order of initial posted date, so now people will reply or post if
they're serious about inquiring about item, or seller will post only if there is an update.
No point to update every hour since no "UP" of thread.

i believe the detailed break down in terms of brands is good... but to disable replies to individual threads has cause alot of sellers and buyers inconvenience...
in the end there would be alot of repeated data in your database since there's no "up"/reply function, ppl will simply create another identical thread when his/her previous posting gets pushed back...

Updates!

Summary
1) Increased PM allocations
2) Feedback on Sigma/Tamron/Tokina lenses being put under respective brands as an option.

---------------

1) We have heard your cries regarding the limited PM space allocated per member, and given that we have disabled replies in Personal Classifieds, we have doubled all current PM allocations. Please check your User Control Panel to see your new, up-sized PM allocation, which are according to your status as follows :-

New Member - 25 PMs
Member - 200 PMs
Senior Member - 400 PMs
Webspace/Gallery Subscribers - 300/400/500 PMs depending on subscription level
Shoot Organisers / Advertisers - 500 PMs

2) To make it easier to locate Sigma/Tamron/Tokina lenses (other 3rd party brands to be considered when volume grows), we are contemplating adding in the 3rd party brands under the Lens Brand selection (which currently defaults to the major camera brands).

Thus, assuming we are in the Canon Equipment section and we are selling a 3rd party lens, the form selection will have the following options :-

Canon
Sigma (CanonMount)
Tamron (CanonMount)
Tokina (CanonMount)

and the completed thread title will have the following description format (assuming selecting the Sigma option).

WTSell: Lens - Sigma (CanonMount) xxx yyy zzz

If the above is agreeable to members, we will make the change.

1 more update!

With regards to the disabling of replies in the Personal Classifieds section, we will revisit this "issue" 7 days from today, to give the system and members enough time to assess whether the ability to reply (or not) has significantly impacted a member's ability to transact in the Personal Classifieds sections.

Can we have RSS feed for separate Buy/Sell sub-forum as well?

We will look into this. Thanks for reminding.

Thanks for the effort guys :), the upsized PMs are great,
Will look forward to the quick guide for the new personal classifieds.

to segregate is very very good,
but no replies is a NO NO :nono:...look at what happened to my auction :dunno: ;(? i have to reply to so many PM ;(.......

The ability for the threadstarter to post replies/updates was something that we internally debated about, and we wanted to run a trial to see if having this system would work better than the previous one where we had threadstarters bumping their posts several times a day (if you analyse the previous section, bumps were by far outweighing the use of replies to update the thread - on an average).
All we need now is the ability for the threadstarter to update his/her post WITHOUT that thread going upwards in the line (bumping)....is that possible?

Categorised have save us a lot of time in searching thru the thread, 100% support

I agree with synapseman, actually wanted to update my Minolta Lens thread but I can't. Thinking of posting a new post... Hope CS admin will consider bringing back the "reply to thread" function in Personal Classified sections.

thanks

Without the UP.., my WTB & WTS threads been pushed far back behind which I also
don't know on which pages..and will missed potential buyer/seller.

Hm...if threads are not brought forward..it really is difficult to let people go through tens of pages to notice your sale.

But if refreshing is allowed, it really does get irritating and waste of space when some sellers keep posting to keep their thread current. I tried my best to keep it at 12hour intervals when I had something to sell.

I wonder if this is possible with the systems' software:

Allow posts to be refreshed/brought forward say every 2 days? Replies to the thread should not bring the posts forward. In other words, simply allow a command to refresh after every 2 days. Maybe this is not possible, but I think it should satisfy everyone?

you guys are doing a good job. keep up the good work, keep a cool head.

Clubsnap is a tribute to your discipline and hard work.

Thank you.

I kinda like the new system - don't have to keep reading repeated threads each time someone bumps it up. Read once and its over :) Makes things easier to sort and look through too. I think bumping up is quite unncessary really as it results in reading and re-reading the same thing over and over again.

It's hard to choose between brands with the new system. like considering one focal range, it least i can see all different brands of it in one page. Category of lens/flash + bodies + others is already enough. Breaking it down to per brand is already complicated. More sub-groups will also mean more mouse clicks to view it.

Can't update whether it's closed/sold or not without the reply option. cant update existing post.

I suggest running a poll as to which one works best for the majority.
Just my suggestions and comments.

Admiring the admins/moderators for maintaining the forums. it's not an easy job but someone has to do it. keep it up.

The B&S (I think) was never a bidding system in the first place. I personally hate bidding because you don't have control and it is a hassle to keep up. For me, I post my items for sale at a price I am comfortable with. If I don't get a response, it simply means my price is either too high or I have not met my potential buyer yet. Let's keep it simple for now.

Totally and thoroughly agree with you. I personally had a no. of bad experiences especially when the seller isn't transparent and insist on replies via sms.

Fantastic improvement mods.
