during my recent trip, i was using a F31 while my friend has a ixus850. I like the ixus in term of size, wide angle, easier-to-use-interface (i've been a canon user), the distortion on the LCD screen also appear much better than F31.

But after viewing the pictures from the Fuji on my PC, i am impressed by the quality of the pictures and the ISO performance. At 800 they still looked good, not sure how the ixus fared at that iso. In addition, i didn't have to charge my battery during my trip (1 week..400 pics plus viewing on LCD).

After returning the F31 to my friend, i am even more determined to wait for Fuji to come out with a wide angle version. !

but deal still not as good as what jasonlimgs got as above..

i would also like to know for taking indoor shots with low light, can one set the camera to auto and the cam will detect what iso settings to use automatically to take nice shots?

of cos you can, but i don quite recommand since the fuji will always bump up the ISO to 800-3200 so much so that the shutter speed is a little faster than what is required for shots without handshake.

so u suggest manually setting the ISO?

den the cam can auto decide what shutter and aperture to use is it?

My colleague just got the F31fd from MS colour and MS colour told her that they have already sold more than 500 of these cameras ! Top selling.

I tired it and shot at auto and even at an ISO of 1600 , the picture look good ! As good as a DSLR standard in terms of ISO?

Hi bent,

It depends on what you are going for - design or performance. I was put off by the F31fd's bulky and plain body initially but still went for it after trying out both cameras. Look at the detail the F31fd can produce compared to the IS850.
IMO, the F31fd is way ahead of the rest for compact camera and is the closest you can get to a DSLR without the weight(I almost bought a Nikon D40).

F31fd has auto(400), auto(800) and auto(1600). I think using them to cap max ISO and at the same time allow some flexibility of having lower ISO is better.

Thanks Antz for your suggestion..

actually i only need the cam ard Oct/Nov

Hopefully a new model will come out by then?

Fujifilm had always produced great CCD and LENS but their cameras just did not match up. The new F40fd is a disappointment. Hope they would continue to build on the success of the F30/F31fd and produce something more sleek(smaller), more user friendly(use SDHC card) and even better performance(faster focusing and better bust mode).

if the F31 had a wide angle and uses SD card

i would grab it immediately.

Plus an Image Stabiliser would be great too!

But i believe it is not available in auto mode... only a/s mode.

Hi guys.... just puzzled about something... hope someone can clarify for me.. Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS has optical image stabilization which i suppose is "anti-shake" either to reduce ur shaky hands vibration or reduce blur from the moving subject. Fujifilm FinePix F31fd has picture stabilization which i cant get much info on wat is it.:nono: I got pretty shaky hands...so "anti-shake" is pretty essential of a feature to me. :what: Can someone rectify? Also, does panasonic has the best digital cameras "anti-shake" capability?

I also bought the F31fd and i don't think that this camera has any "Sensor Shifting" technology. I think the Anti-Shake feature merely increases shutterspeed and ISO.

wow, the "anti-shake" can freeze a subject!

ok, on serious note there are basically 2 main types of stabiliser
1. boost ISO - Fuji way of doing, basically just get you obtain higher shutter speed by using high ISO, hoping that you reduce/avoid handshake and also blur from moving subject
2. optical/sensor stabiliser - canon 850IS is using 1 which basically just reduce/avoid handshake, subject movement will still be blurred but since ISO ain't increased, you will get cleaner images

as for best stabiliser, none... those stabiliser response different from different direction/degree... etc of handshake. but as a general pana/canon/nikon stabiliser are good
