I notice one thing ... very broadly speaking ... local togs like to use very few lights, where as say, American togs like to use more. But I've seen boith over-'cooked' as well as really well-controlled examples from the US base, so it's hard to fault or credit the number of lights used. Still goes back to CONTROL, and control will never be good if UNDERSTANDING is not there.

Hmm...well, if you look at the Americans, everything they do is BIG! BIGGER IS BETTER! MORE! MORE! MORE! HUGE FAKE BOOBS! HUGE HP ENGINES! LARGE CALIBER GUNS! LARGE Productions AND not only huge, but MORE MORE MORE ... you get the idea.
However, in all fairness, there are lots of instances where the techniques they develop and sometimes, the equipment that gets designed to facilitate those techniques answer more complex needs.
I was speaking with a commercial togs I used to work with, and she told me it wasn't a lack of funds or space (since most studios are located in industrial areas with huge floor space and very high ceilings), but more a matter of approach.
Remember, with each single flash you add, you make the task at LEAST 3 TIMES more difficult because control gets compounded, so adding and adding may add more problems than it solves if that infinite degree of control isn't there. THAT control takes TIME, and time for the working pro is MONEY. And very often that's money that clients aren't willing to spend. So, in the final analysis, you're partly right in that togs over there have tons waay more resources to utilize.

I engaged a Japanese photographer to do a fashion accessory shoot years ago. He also does aerial and other industrial product shoots. I was told by one of his local assistants that it took them more then one day to get the lighting just right to shoot a medium format photo of 'pills'. Mixture of a number of flashes, bounce screens..etc Now that's dedication heheh...
Take longer - can charge for more DAYS taken mah! :devil: SMART tactics! :bsmilie:

heheheh..... no lah... saw his work then...very good stuff. He takes on project that is not rushed. he gives you a price and he just goes at it if it peak his interest. Can't recall his name now...he use to have a studio in Toa Payoh industrial park back then... damn...getting old... OH yes..he has SINARs!!! heheheh

Some cannot work under time pressure, and some just prefer to 'craft' perfection taking their time doing it. The latter, they are the true 'craftsmen'. Unfortunately, most of the time, won't last long in the local maggie-mee-ai-chee-ai-pee-ai-tua-liap-quickie environment.

well that is where he balance it with what we call "rice bowl" projects lor heheh which also means he throws it to his more senior assistance to do the main shoot while he show his face to QC abit heheheh....
okie..time to go finish my PC game... OverLord. Wah...go some many levels thought I fnish the game and then got abit more story heheh......

hmm... I chose black bg cause thats the only clean backdrop I have... if not I've white. Any suggestions on the background? cause I shot in my room de. Like how I can improve in terms of bg.
