heheh there had been alot of songs deem to be so.... remember that song " Claire" by Gilbert O Sullivan.. I love his song but that one took a lot of flak back then for it's lyrics...
Kate Bush was like the "Bjork" of the 80s...very experimental and artsy. You either hate or love her stuff. I hate half of it and love the other half heheheheh

Well, R&B is a later development of Motown, which was kinda monotonous after awhile ... to me anyways.
Sometimes it depends on mainstraem culture, moores and 'norms' at the time I guess.
You remember that oh-so-profound sounding song Don't dream it's over? Everyone thought it was some super profound trip through life's journies bla bla bla when the guys wrote about being stuck in a broken down van in a storm!
I like some of the Beautiful South's music as well, and the Style Council.

har? Motown is more a record label and not a musical category. Alot of groups came from the label and it collectively was given that term "motown sound" R&B is more about gendre like blues, soul music...etc. We are nto talking R&B today which is trash and commercial white noise. R&B lost alot of souls since the 90s
