Experiences with the new K-7 Camera

Seems more consistent on K7. Oddly though I like the K10D reproduction at f1.4 and f4, but it probably has more to do with exposure preference than accuracy.

Same here. My K10D does suffer from the occasional under/over exposure 1-2 stops in mixed lighting, but nothing a little compensation can't fix a few shots later. Helpful feature in a pinch though.

More interested in the VF and manual focusing assist. Can't believe I forgot to put that to the test when I handled it.

Some more macros w/ the new K-7:

Ok I will try to avoid reading threads like this which is poisonous. Great marco photos fengwei. I just check the chinese online store in Beijing, seems they have pre-orders as well (if I guess correctly) http://rayi.cn/act1/k7/index.html . Converted about SGD1.8k for body. I think can get cheaper at the shops. ;p

D300 is fast and accurate but can't say the same for A700 ..................

50D is better than A700 any day ................. :)

Interesting. I didn't notice any accuracy problems with the A700 I tried, but admittedly, I didn't test it out comprehensively. But the 50D for sure was struggling under similar conditions (store, well lit).

Anyway, atleast the AF-S accuracy on the K-7 ought to be very good with the additional WB sensor.

Hopefully Pentax brings out newer versions of the DA* series with improved ring type USM motors instead of the cheaper, slower and less reliable micromotors. I think that plus improved AF algorithms from even the existing SAFOX system ought to do the trick.

Trick ??? ............... I hope not ........ have been tricked too many times .....:bsmilie:

Just a week or so more to go, we hope!

But it seems we already have quite a few pre-orderers. :bsmilie:

Yep, and i am trying to get the newbies to convert too

Anyone who comes into this thread will be asked the question hehe . . .;p

This K7 is definition a poison for those who have long considered Pentax, but for me K20D life span in my hands very short is in a pull and push positions, is there really a kiiling factor for K20D to go forward K7? Does K20D pictures output very close to K7, regardless of all AF-C ....Shares your comments and hindsights, foresights,

Im a newbie and I have a question... "when will be the agony stop? can't wait 'till I get my hands on my new k-7!" haha! :bsmilie:

FW, great Macro Shots... make me feel like going out there to take Macro again.. it has been donkeys months since i last did my Macro... especially on Inserts... Did you use Flash? I think you did, but why you set EV Compensation to +7?? Got underexposure problem??

anyway.. meet the ant's long distance cousin from Australia

EV was set to +0.7 (not +7 ;). The max for K-7 is +/- 5EV) on some photos due to lack of flash power on some scenes. Many others including the flies and ants photos, EV was set to 0 :).

Excellent ant shot! If you can always take ants photos like this one, you don't need a K-7 I guess ;)

I will also take your advice and refrain from upgrading to K7......... :D

haha.. likely you will still go for K7...

I have logic to upgrade.. (trying to convict myself for it, to justify them)
1. Better AF-S meaning i can better capture my fast moving subject (my niece and nephew)
2. Mode Dial Lock - very useful as I often change the mode accidentally without realising
3. 720P Movie - a Format that I like, althought a 1080P would be best, but a 720P is better than 1080i.
4. Smaller Camera Size - will be back to the size I like best for *istDs.. Still keeping it as its my very first DSLR....
5. Battery Grip that uses AA batteries.. again, its something that I like about *istDs.. the option to buy AA Batteries should I run out of battery...

Fengwei - do you never keep a spare body?
