Yes, at ISO1600, I think K-7 is better than K100D, but don't forget that K-7 has much more pixels than K100D. If you resize K-7's file to 6mp, it'd blow away K100D at any ISO :)

Thanks, FW.

That's really great to know, cos I just did another event mostly on ISO 1600, and I can see the K-7 will serve my needs well!

High iso is very good. Perfectly usable to me at iso1600.

Lot of Nice photos made by K-7  but can see you love antiques. I  this old gun.

But C.... m..k at ISO 6400 was very good ...Pentax everything quite good but AF-C and ISO if can be better than can be K..g.

I am seeing "patterns" all around the shadow areas at ISO 1600 and above. This is probably the NR software in K7.
Is it just me then?
I know that you guys are Pentax enthusiasts, but let's be more critical.

It would be good to be critical, and get real othervise the reviews and tests would be pointless. It helps to get people to know the cam well before playing around and stumbles into things.

Suddenly so many "experts" from other makes "making noise" of Pentax high ISO...

To begin with the images are from a pre-production camera, which is already very good already imo. In fact, high noise at high ISO is not as much an issue compared to the amount of detail that is retained. Pentax has always remained conservative in not having heavy-handed NR in order to preserve details. If anyone has issues with excessive noise, it can easily be managed by software like Noise Ninja or Neatimage.

Please lah, if you want to compare, make it a fair comparison... how much is K-7 compared to the rest?

If you're unhappy with Pentax on this one issue, which is a non issue to me because in practical terms just how often do most of us like to shoot very high ISO???
Solution is simple, just dump all your Pentax gear and jump ship... I guarantee you will be spending more money and miss in-body SR... and the smaller, more compact body and lighter weight. :bsmilie:

Agreed! wake up my idea. But it will be hard to jump ship ... when u have addiction to the cult and Pentax in your blood .. but the chemical reaction, will either make you hysyterical or critical, going to or not going to upgrade. But some people would rather use the term strike 4d loh..it's more conservative than to make too much noise, well maintaining details. Hahahhahaha!

Thanks FW for the very nice samples.

I think for the pattern noise thingy.
If you crop the original photo, you can see clearer:

is it just me or is there a line somewhere around the head?somewhere about...^ here

That's probably sensor defect. I didn't see the line until I took some black scene ...

Took some macro w/ the new K-7 camera today, here are some to share. More to come later:

Wow, crystal clear macro.
Also for the bee, very sharp, I guess K7 the auto focus is superb :)

Out of curiousity was the K7 sensor clean before you did these tests. I felt it need cleaning, comparing to some samples I saw about K20D last gathering samples IstDi.... sample looks very clean.

Today I had a hard clean because I saw degraded on image quality,of my K20D and sensor check image look horronous. Probably changed lens on windly and sandy environ cause these.

I hope you're not referring to me, as I am no expert.

I have had K10D and K20D before, but am now using Nikon.
I am very keen with the K7 and impressed with all the features offered, and of course have thoughts about jumping ship.
Hence, I am reading and looking at the images that FW posted with great interests.

It's not how heavy NR is, but it's a matter of the moire/pattern or whatever it is called, that appeared on the jpgs at higher ISO.
Since FW said that this is v1.0 firmware, I thought this is probably close to what we will see on the real K7.

Anyway, I am hoping that we can have some discussion and opinion about it from experienced Pentax users.

Thanks of course to FW for this review.
