Guys just to share, I think map camera in Japan are selling rd1x at 135 000 yen

Mail to rf person who happen to be at tokyo

Yep, Map Camera at least have some sort of special going on for a few weeks now. The x;s are getting creepily close to the used R-D1*;s, not sure why, probably cleaning them out since they are getting "dated" in the eye of the common man. I made a note that the R-D1x (without the G, which should mean only a loss of the external grip if I know my Epson;s correctly) goes for 135,000 JPY (almost 1,800 USD)

Who's going there? Anyway I'm clearing my m8 for this any taker?:)

Hi Benny, I'm wondering, how much is the rd1x cost now in tokyo? Saw two sets in ebay costing more than 2K without any lens.

Plenty available here in Tokyo. Both new, used and the recent "Factory Outlet" sets. No price range as the exchange rate is all over the place. Any reference has no meaning in a few weeks give the strength of the Yen. If buying from Japan. Sooner is cheaper than later.

And Epson will continue to service this camera until 2018 if I recall correctly. The R-D1/R-D1s shares a lot of similar parts too. So service life is definitely not an issue and in most cases, it's just a CLA or viewfinder alignment from rough handling. There was only once I saw a whole analogue display being replaced to basically restore a R-D1s to a new specification. Even then, the replacement cost was cheaper than the postage for a camera back to Germany. I've never heard of cracked sensor, pinky lines, SD card issue, etc, etc, etc, etc

Cheers,

I too find the higher ISO performance quite amazing for this unloved digital RF option. Despite having NEX, GXR, etc, etc, I still hang on to my Epsons.

Cheers,

I have a question... Is it that all the m lens can be used on rd-1? What about the collapsiable lenses?

Just wondering, how do you guys pick the exposure for the rd1? I've shot quite abit using the AE set to 0, but I quickly realised that I need to adjust for +1 exposure almost for every picture in post. Now I set the dial to +1ev all the time. Is that normal for the Epson?

And gee... that price for a new rd1x is tempting, although you would have to factor in the import taxes when it hits singapore. :(

i shot plus one all the time as well previously... anyway got lightroom to meddle with the raw file..

Hey Benny, thanks a bunch for all your informative posts. I live in Osaka and I've finally decided to seek out the "Preciousssssssss...." I've been coveting for so long. Would you recommend seeking out an R-d1 or R-d1s here in Japan?... or internationally?

I'm going exploring tomorrow around the Electric Town of Osaka... I'm just wondering how much is considered a good price (in YEN) for an R-d1 or R-d1s.

Thanks for your help mate.

i remember seeing naniwa camera near namba area in Osaka, not sure if they have the RD1 but its worth checking out .

Hey Guys!

I am wondering where I can get R-D1/R-D1s in America? It's better if there is any shop available in New York City or Philadelphia. Wish somebody could share some information here. I am appreciate for your help.

I have already spend one month to finding one online.....

Cheers,

Kevin

sorry miss out the thread, I have been to den den town in osaka last year, a lot of electronics games and stuff, not much cam thought.

hmm there are a lot at yodabashi, but new set. kitamiura 2nd hand cam shop may carry as well, saw a lot contax G1 G2 :)

Hello all, i'm gonna get an epson rd-1s. But as far as i've checked, the common problems are the misalignment of the focusing patch, white balance needle misaligned and some other misalignment issues. All these aren't really an issue to me but i keep hearing about people looking for batteries for this rangefinder? Is there anything wrong with the batteries? Battery lifespan very short? And how many shots can one full charge last?

Sorry for asking so many questions! thanks in advance:)

Err im running 3rd party batt , if u turn it on permanently the batt indicator drop quite fast.
Usually I shoot and off the cam. Unicell at sim lim sq are carrying 3rd party batt arnd 15sgd..
Well the 3rd party ones last me around 100 to 200 shots

Thank you for the replies regarding Camera Shops in Osaka, Japan. They were extremely helpful. So helpful, that I found an R-D1s in immaculate condition for 100,000 yen. No questions asked, I bought it on the spot. I also invested in an exceptionally cool leather bag to house my new baby. I'll post some poison soon.

Unfortunately the frame-lines seem to be a tad bit misaligned. I frame carefully with a grid in front of the camera, but the resulting image is tilted a little to the left.

The camera store gave me a 6 month warranty with the camera, which I'm sure should cover this little problem. It's only 5,750 yen to have Epson do a full service here in Japan, so I'll have to do some convincing with the shop and hope they don't try to fix it themselves.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I would appreciate some feedback on my situation listed above too if you guys have some time.

hahah..... looks like i will be joining you guys soon... my rd-1 will arrive via ems by this week (fingers crossed)...

i intend to use it with the lcd flipped and fixed to B&W.

should be a blast...

thanks newghost,

i do have a couple of questions, even though i have read the manual once over:

a. how long does the battery lasts ? i do not intend to chimp, but rather, have the back closed. any idea if buying aftermarket batteries is advisable ?

b. the RF alignment, i read, is an issue, anyone in Singapore can do the alignment or is this enuff for DIY ?

thanks

When i had the RD1s, the RF was misaligned too... the old man got it fixed for me. I think this should be fairly straight forward, there's a link on how to do it earlier on this thread! :)
