EOS - M3

Got M3 Kit I at Cathay.

Anyone know where to get the latest firmware update?

Feels like the M3 software is not really ready before the push out....menu design really bad...

The biggest issue: when set to shoot RAW only, the camera itself cannot decode the raw pics properly, and when zoom in to review the image, it's obviously pixelated....scared me like hell, thought it's my lens' problem, eventually found out it's the RAW processing issue with the camera.

The focusing speed not very convincing as well, eagerly waiting for the firmware update...

Double tapping on the touchscreen during playback shows 100% magnification. Zooming beyond that is > 100% magnification. After all, ALL cameras , even in RAW-only mode has a small JPG thumbnail for histogram calculation and preview, so need not get overly worried about that.

The performance of the M3 when coupled with the EFM 11-22 lens under pitch dark conditions isn't as good as FF DSLR, but image quality isn't that shabby either. Able to capture the faint Milky Way on my recent trip.

Thanks user12343! Sure, I am not worried at all, just a bit disappointed. As I am trying the M3 out, been comparing it with my old EOS M. On M, there's no issue viewing the RAW pics, even zoom all the way to 100%, and no issues on any other DSLRs I've been used before. Anyway, hope Canon will really release a well-crafted firmware update sooooon......

I managed to have a hands on with the EOS M3 but however why I felt it is actually a Sony design?
The titled live view screen is similar to Sony, handling, buttons and etc. does feel like a Sony Alpha.
For those who owned Sony Alpha cameras like a6000, how do you feel between the two?

不管黑猫白猫,会捉老鼠就是好猫。so long it produces great images that's all it matters, no worries who copy/resrmbles who. :)

The specs already say it is possible to zoom greater than 100% up to 10x . I have some minor issues with 1.0.0, ie, during Manual exposure, sometimes it is unresponsive, pressing down the shutter button fully down does not trigger the exposure, which I hope to get it fixed in the next firmware update

Hi, thought I would make a contribution. I purchased a set from Amazon Japan. But instead of Tenso, I am using vPost. I have the misfortune of being charged $100 for shipping as vPost claimed my item weighs 5.8kg! It is only the body + EVF. hardly 2kg in my opinion. Please take note. I think they might have been measuring the size rather than the weight.
I compared the rates and chose vPost because their published rates was $1.30 per 100g.

Now you know.

Vpost is charging by volumetric weight and not the actual weight itself. It is stated in their website.

Volumetric weight (kg) = [ length(cm) x breadth(cm) x height(cm) ] / 5,000cm

http://www.vpost.com.sg/our-services/shipping-rates << Scroll down and you will see the calculation here.

The cost is charged by your shipping box size, and not items size also. E.g. If you ordered another item and Amazon Japan decided to use the same shipping box size as for your M3 used, it will be charged at the "5.8kg" also

And if items are chargeable for GST, it will be calculated by CIF (Item Cost + Shipping) * 7% + $5 service charge

Additional note: Some Tenso also charge by both volumetric weight and actual weight, whichever is higher.

Quick check- the 18-55 & 55-200 kit lens for M3 are the same as for M?

Yes. Thry are EF-M lens
thanks, what I meant was whether there is a mark 2 version with the M3 release or basically any difference against the lenses belonging to the original M

Shouldn't be. Before M3, none of its predecessors are selling well, so I very much doubt any mk2 versions of these efm lenses. But I feel the 11-22 is better among the other 3.

makes sense. I guess the body alone option should be the best selling one then.

I would give my vote to the 22mm lens. Another pancake lens of 40 or 50mm would have been perfect. The EF 40mm with adapter is still pretty handt, though.

How does the 55-200 fare?

I can't comment, I haven't tried this lens. Still unsure whether to get it since I have a Tamron lens for this range. With the EF to EF-M adapter I don't see the point of getting every lens twice.

I second that for efm 11-22. Really good. Value for money when paired with eos m mark 1.
Would be interested to know its performance with m3.
