Some question on 7D shutter button. It's doesn't have the tactile feel like the 40D. Is that normal? Has Canon redesign the shutter button mechanism?

yep, it feels different as i have both cameras.
when fully pressed,
the 40D will hit the bottom limit with a click sound.
the 7d button feels like there's some resistance after the half-pressed position, and it dosent hit the bottom limit with a click sound even when u jam it all the way down. the shutter is tripped immediately it leaves the half-pressed position.

5D has the same shutter button design. Personally I find this soft-touch design much more comfortable and responsive than the hard button on 40D.

Hi, you have the combination of lens that I am thinking of, i.e. 17-55f2.8 and 70-200f4.

I am currently on 10-22 and 24-105f4. I am thinking of getting the 17-55f2.8 to have a better close range and 70-200 for tele.

What is your experience with the lens you have now? Do you feel "complete".

BTW, I am not a serious photographer but just "suitable" lens for walkabout. I like to take people (streets/indoor portraits but have not tried studio portraits).

Will you recommend the two lens?

Thanks,

Yes, strongly recommended.:)

I also consider myself to be a casual photographer with interests in candid portraiture and zoo photography.

These 2 lenses have a very good image quality. Furthermore, the 70-200mm f4 is small and light compared to its f2.8 brothers. Thus, they make an ideal travelling companion.

However, if you don't mind a little loss in sharpness, you may also consider getting the EFS 18-200mm. This is also a good travelling companion, IMO.

I have a Sigma 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 but not useful with low light. Have not use the EFS 18-200mm. Any user can give some comments on the two lenses? I don't have a problem to ditch the Sigma if the Canon has better performance in terms of IQ...

Regards,

I am not sure about the Sigma lens, my take on the Canon's can be found here:

I love it when I hear that shuttle sound :)

Just got my 7D today, the VF itself is worth paying the $$ for.

Other than that I love the shutter button, allows you to squeeze, not press for stability (just like M16). Still playing around with it using my 17-55. Gonna try to take some videos with the 10-22 tmr, should be interesting. :D

I got my 7D a few days back with the 15-85 kit. I must say that it is a great upgrade from my previous 400D.. Can't stop taking photos with it and love it all the way!

I finally lay my hands on the 17-55 f2.8. Now I have 10-22, 17-55 and 24-105... it is a fair bit of overlap and may consider giving up 24-105 for 70-200. If I move towards the 70-200, the next question will be f2.8 or f4.

Half my heart goes to f2.8 but the other half pull me back due to the weight of the lens... f4 is definitely much lighter.....

Sign.. life is full of choices... and too many choices is no good....

A fast lens will be an advantage :) 17-55 f/2.8 is just good :)

If you are a casual shooter just like me, then I'll advise u to get the f4 version. It is much lighter and easier to travel with, especially if you've got a family like me.

Anyway, this is what I shot with the 70-200mm f4L last night, after I got back the 7D and the lens from canon. I'm really impressed with the high ISO

DPP_1000.jpg

This shot handheld at ISO1600, f8.0, 1/250s, with a bounced flash (580EX), unedited except for exposure correction.

With such good high ISO noise control, you may not even need IS for most of the shots!

There is no 15-85 lens manual included in the box.
Does your box have the lens manual?

I got mine at Harvey Norman for $3550 cash (not even nets). I've been shooting like mad :bsmilie: shoot everything from serious ones to candid pics.. I love the zoom range and the build quality of the lens. Definitely a great add-on for general/walkabout lens. Picture-quality wise I must say that I'm impressed as well.. worth every cent of my money :) and nope there is no lens manual also. I think for kit sets Canon doesn't include manual for its lens?

any shop accept diners club interest free installment? :embrass:

I guess no lens manual for kit lenses. Thanks! I like the stiffness of the 15-85 zoom ring compared to the 17-55!

just got my 7D with 15-85mm lens 2 days ago, its been great but do faces some slight problems here and there

1) the lens has a lot of vignetting especially at 15mm focal length

2) i can't use my 3rd party sunpak flash

3) i can't set the video quality to 1920x1080, 30frames, the menu only let me go up to 25 frames

will be great if fellow 7D can shed some lights on my problems

lens vignetting can be corrected within the 7D isnt it? unless the new 15-85 lens info havent been added into the 7D.

i presume the 3rd party flash is triggered via the centre pin? maybe blocking the other 4 pin connections on the hotshoe might help? :dunno:

regarding the fps settings on the 7D
if u set ur cam video system to PAL it can only take 24, 25 and 50fps (since these are PAL specifications)
change it to NTSC, and u can take 24, 30 and 60fps. (NTSC standards)
