Actually I don't think its a flaw, if they chose to ignore someone, then they have ignored him. To say that I wont ignore someone because someone else quotes him is really being quite silly and inconsistent.

My initial thought of a forum, "Enter at your own risk" or "Vent your Spleen" can have one sad flaw.....

People that are there but on ignore lists

It would be cluttered with mediators quoting others posts.

haha... imagine if DP was there, the interviewer will say, sorry our hair stylist prefer messy hair.

then Student was there, sorry we prefer sharp pictures. :bsmilie:

Just joking hor, dun hantum me...
haha .... what if the female interviewer asks .... and he replies .... I am Kelvin Lim from CS and Friendsters .... think he will get the job?

Hi vince123123,

In reference to your words in red as your reply to my words in blue .........

.

You have been a member since Oct 2002 and have posted 4058 times.

In all that time have you not noticed how some people deliberately

include a quote by someone that is on someone elses ignore list :dunno:

These morons are simply out to stirr things up and generally do.

These are the people that I refer to as mediators.

I thought you might have caught on to what my meaning was, sorry.

I see, well perhaps so - there will always be trouble makers around as well as people intending to stir **** up. My point was if someone chooses to ignore another person, evne if someone quotes the ignored person, the ignorer should remain consistent and ignore that ignoree. After all, the ignorer has already made a conscious decision to ignore, why change position just cos someone else repeated what the ignoree said.

But perhaps we are talking about two different things. I'd hvae thought the your idea of the forum has no link with ignored lists - poeple can still post their vents all they want, whether or not there are ignored lists or otherwise.

Hi vince123123,

I see your point, but it is not so easy.

Have you anyone on your ignore list ?

I did have one persone for a while some time back,
but it was impossible (for me) not to see much of what that person wrote.

When that person was quoted often and referred to,
as much as was my inital desire to ignore that person I could not.

Ok, I could have just contributed to 1 or 2 forums that the person did not frequent,
but that would be stupid.

As it happened, by catching a few items in some "mediators" posts,
I began to re-like that person I was trying to ignore.
..................................................................................

Just now a thought went through my mind ......

If I put myself on my ignore list, would I disappear :bsmilie:

this is so interesting... ignoring oneself... cool!

CSer A to B: "hey why not u ignore yourself!?"

I understand where you're coming from. However, like I said, if one already decides to ignore someone, even if you can physically read it, does that mean you have to reply? If you already made a conscious decision to ignroe someone, you don't need hte forum software to filter it out for you, just use your own self censorship and use the brain to literally ignore.

That's what ignore means, that you know its there, but you do not take cognizance of it
or respond to it. The forum function is more of "filtering" than ignoring.

I have no issues with anyone putting anyone on an ignore list. Nor am I trying to assess the merits of the reasons why anyone wishes to put anyone on an ignore list. You have your reasons for putting Canonised in your ignore list. Likewise, you are free to put me on your ignore list if you wish to do so. I won't begrudge you for that.

To me, putting someone on an ignore list means you wish to ignore anything he says. Why then do you feel compelled to reply to an ignored person's comments, just because it was quoted by someone and therefore you have "seen" it and must now reply? You've made the decision to ignore, so ignore. You don't need a forum software to artifically filter out posts you don't want to see - I'm sure a human being is more discerning than that.

Or I suggest that the reason why A puts B in A's ignore list as a way for A to get the last word in (aha! after I reply to this, dont bother replying back because I wont see this), or a way of conveniently and selectively choosing which messages to reply to (get someone to quote the offending post first and legitimise it)?

I just think you should be consistent.

And by the way, the rest, don't quote me, since Student decided to ignore me, lets not give him a back door to reply to this.
i do you a favour.. i quoted you in case you were on student's infamous list.

I oredi say dont quote me mah, then he got excuse / back door to reply.

Hey yanyewkay,

Did you select save :dunno:

I did....... "poof" ..... no more zhang3feng

Cool :bsmilie:
no. sadly my list is still empty. i look here look there, nobody to add leh...

I'm open to all steam and thrash, regardless of how wordly it is. I have no need for the ignore function as I agree to disagree in this forum. I also have no lust to win every cat-fight that is waged in here as well.

:dunno: got any suggestion who I can add just for fun?

Did u try adding yourself to the list ?

:bsmilie: Maybe u cant see what u type

YYK: You know what the interesting thing is? Student has on several occassions, ran out of steam himself and has no more sensible and reasonable retort. :)

Just to let you know something.

I also have no lust to win any fight at all. Winning is not important to me. I know who I am. But I will carry on a debate as long as I have something to say. If someone runs out of steam in a debate with me, it is not that I want to win, but that he had no more sensible and reasonable retort.

So, with all that has happened here so far......

I re -ask the question

Just had a thought, (I juess this may have been suggested often before).....

A forum that is not visable (like portraits on guest account), to members whose post count is below say 300.

The forum is for "Venting Your Spleen".

If a flame starts up in any other forum it gets moved to V.Y.S forum.

It will no doubt need a FULL TIME MOD

Forum title, "Enter at own risk"

I have no Yes or No to the actual idea, so far it looks like it might have some merrit.

What do you really think :dunno: is it an idea that the ADMIN might want to look into

:)

I tried IGNORE myself, but it said

"We can't help you ignore yourself."

Cool! :bsmilie:
