EM-10 Official! The OM-D for All!

bro u are so stopping me from getting em10!! hahaha, thanks for the info:)

Actually, after seeing this update and then calculating prices of E-M10 + 25mm f/1.8, I'm starting to find the E-P5 attractive again... but then again the 3-year warranty is also attractive...

I wouldn't look at the extended warranty being a overriding important factor when deciding between 2 cameras ;)

Well, you never know when that dial will start getting loose right? ;)

huh, what was that about?
Beats me.

Apparently Olympus claims that you shouldn't clean EM-5 sensor yourself because it may do damage to the IBIS system.

Well at least users are claiming that Olympus claims it. I always take anything I read on the Internet with a pinch of salt. Given that the Copperhill kit I use doesn't require a whole ton of force, I don't see any difference between bringing a swab across the sensor and getting a jolt during a car ride. The latter is probably more damaging if the IBIS system is so delicate like a flower. :bsmilie:

A lot more threads on DPReview echoing the same story, with one person saying that Olympus gave him a reply that their techs would "recharge anti-static coat on sensor" whenever they cleaned the camera for customers. With a Harry Potter wand perhaps. :bsmilie:

actually following up on this, any idea what exactly do they clean and check? :) was passing by Wed night and was told by them they accept all Oly models for cleaning but wasn't able to give any details on how they do it.

You're talking about Vivocity thing? I wonder if they'll also clean compact cameras... My sister-in-law's XZ1 got dust inside. :bsmilie:

Actually during the course of comparing EM-5 versus EM-10 I noticed one difference - that is the position of the tripod mount. If I intend to use the camera for landscapes, including panorama making, then I would probably take the EM-10. The tripod mount is in line with centre of lens, compared to off-centre on EM-5 (can be resolved, but requires special plate which is a hassle no matter how you look at it). Something for you guys to consider as well. Me.. I'm going to be using this second camera to take photos of my wife and cats. No panos there. :bsmilie:

They do clean compacts :)

For my Oly stuff , I just have this habit of checking them in for cleaning and checking every time after a travel so it's not an issue for me. I will find it weird if cleaning the EM5 is something only Oly can do ;)

Even the sensor for free? It won't be a simple job since they would have to open up the whole body. Wow. If that's the case, I will just ask her to go to Vivocity. :bsmilie:

It's ok, I just posed the question on FB. :) Will update here, but I doubt it includes dust in compacts. Too much work.

Think Wonglp did touch on it in the preview thread, but of course, he did tell me verbally, so I may have remembered wrongly hahaha but good that you brought it up

I'm thinking of dropping by Sun , just send in the EM1 , EP5 and OM1 for cleaning ;)

I was there. They dun hv the setup there to open the camera up to clean sensor. In any case the sswf in the cameras preclude any sensor cleaning. Doing so cld rupture the nembrane in front of the sensor.

Guys, since the discussion here went as far as cleaning sensor, just curious if you guys use air blower like giottos to clean sensor of em5 or em1?

Thanks ! Hmm, hence exactly what do they 'clean' at the pop up event at Vivo ?

Just hooted em10 plus 25 f1.8 from Alan Photo this evening.

Reserved a silver set but ended up with black. Find the black more natural looking and.... 25 f1.8 only have black atm

My bro wants to bring his XZ2 for cleaning there. Doubt they can do so? Or their idea of cleaning is just to use blower to blow away dusts on the cameras and wipe them clean with micro fibre cloth?

From what I understand, it's not a membrane but a thin piece of glass. Unless you do it like a bull in a china shop (which is possible since I've heard of people who scratched their sensor using screwdriver to clean it ahem), I don't think it will be an issue.
