and they got problem forcing the door to open. but i thought all buses should have an emergency button outside the bus??? press it and it will open....only need 1 sec , no need 60 mins....

You should read some of their local online news reports.

"Crisis ends with some hostages alive"

etc.

Shakes head.

This is merely a visible symptom of a larger issue with their society.
(And how the heck does an ex-cop expect to clear his name and get his job back by holding people hostage???)

Anyone remembers SQ117 back in 1991? We killed 4 hijackers in 30 sec with NONE of the passengers and crew dead. And that was a freaking plane. The Philippines SWAT Team couldn't even get on a bus?!?:thumbsd:

that time they use kitchenware cutlery knifes, this man use M16... might not be apple to apple comparison..

the driver is the true cuplrit. he give wrong information to the authority that trigger off the big blunder.
frankly speaking, going to that country is already a mistake! sigh

At the time, the authorities did not know how heavily armed they were so they had to assume the worst. We only knew they were armed only with butter knives after they were gunned down. It's the way it was planned and executed, with swift and decisive precision. The element of surprise was of utmost importance.

Absolutely none of this was evident in the Philippine bus incident.

actually after looking through all the videos/photos/newpaper report, i wonder if is it the police/government is more concern about protecting their own countryman, the gunman? why the driver can escape unhurt? is he the gunman accomplice? etc Imagine if the bus is full of angmoh instead of HK chinese people, i think it will have very different ending.....

Perhaps you shouldn't go out of Singapore then. Heck, maybe even out of your home?

There is no excuse for the crime that was committed. Neither do for how it was handled. We can condemn all we want, but statements like the above? Tasteless.

:Later,

They need to learn from the Israelis. Rescue operations conducted overseas, thousands of miles away... and that was in 1976. Operation Entebbe . Even the Mumbai incident, the special ops offer to rescue their own citizen, the Rabbi and his family. But the Indian government declined, and resulted in the total wipeout of the israeli hostages.

Breaking down glass windows is not as easy as it seen in the movies. The glass windows in the movies are specially made to shatter easily. Stunt men can break down the glass windows easily without cutting themselves.

Glass windows in real life are tougher unless there are some manufacturing defects.
I believe some of you guys have heard of reporters in Vietnam war, who are save by their glass lenses. When bullet hit the glass, the direction will change if it manage to penetrate the glass.

If the commandos shoot the windows, more hostage will die by stray bullets.
glass does not break as easily as in the movies, and a stack of glass in a lens may sufficiently deflect light-arms rounds (such as a 7.62mm round from an AK47 or 5.56mm round from an M16, refering to the Vietnam example), but there are sniper rifles built to shoot through brick walls and light armoured vehicles, such as the Barrett M82, something which apparently, according to the attached website, the Philipines armed forces own (as a wikipedia page, YMMV regarding the veracity of the info)...

the difference in power may be seen in the various sizes of the rounds fired (not a full-proof method of comparison especially when difference in size is not large, but in this case, the difference is very obvious... or you can compare the various energy levels for a more accurate comparison)... the M82 fires the .5 BMG round originally designed for heavy machineguns... compare the size of the round (left most in the first image on the attached site) vs. those of the earlier mentioned small-arms rounds (the 2nd and 3rd rounds from the right)...

if they were to use this sort of weapon, their fear is probably not whether there is sufficient penetrative power but whether there is anyone behind the target who might also get hit by the round going through the first target...

Philippine National Police is a sorry excuse for law and order!

AN EMBARASSMENT!!!

It's an isolated case. I can assure you.

The real culprit here is the police force. I'm no expert in these things, but common sense tells me NEVER to agitate or provoke a hostage taker. You know what these clowns did? They arrested the hostage taker's relatives in plain sight! Now who wouldn't run amok with that? I can understand the driver's ordeal. Judgment may be impaired because it's not everyday you experience something like that.

man, that's tasteless! i can understand people wanting to take pics of the scene of the tragedy, but to pose for a group photo?! WTF !

and what's with new pres. aquino??? you give a press conference following one of the most embarrassing episodes in your nation's history, and you put on a smiley face for the world to see, like you had a good time with the wifey the night before?? put on your game face - look serious lah, brudder!

the one positive from this whole fiasco, is that police tactical teams all over the world will review their SOPs and revise them if necessary and fine-tune training so as to be better prepared for all kinds of crises. may the blunder in manila never be repeated ever again...
