Yes it is but quite rare as compared to single lens kit. Best to check with your fav shop and ask them to reserve one for you.

is the omd em5 body alone available in Singapore store?

what is the price for the body alone?

Anyone can share his experience with manually setting the IS focal length? It seems that it is particularly important to set the focal length to the actual focal length of the manual lens. Anything too long will lead to some degree of overcompensation. The IS is otherwise great.

Yes, think you are right about overcompensate if FL is set too long. It has to be actual or whatever is closest. I was previewing the IBIS when set FL too long say 100mm with fisheye 7.5mm and current speed 1/8s, the IBIS will start to take place rather aggressively, and the shot was blurred easily. Whereas if set FL to 8mm, IBIS not as aggressive, no blur shot. I think it takes into account the difference between the 1/FL sec (35mm equivalent) vs the actual speed to determine how much to compensate perhaps? So the example above shows that FL is set too long, and the actual speed is too slow hence overcompensate. Does this make sense?

Yeah I would imagine. There's still a need for good technique though. The IS can't solve extreme shakes as far as I noticed.

ya, was testing 1sec handheld with lcd on 7-14mm @ 7mm other day, not possible till right technique, army style EVF shooting beside lampost. And was 2nd shot that nailed it. Though I'm sure there are heaps who can do better than me.

Oh! Spare BATTERY! LOL... :bsmilie:

Might get a second one, too (silver, i.e.). Or wait for the next OM-D. Hmm...

Silver body only set ....

Regarding the IBIS, must I enable the "enable IS when shutter is half press" in the menu settings to use the IBIS? Default is switched off.

Don't think so. What u r describing is an option to activate IBIS when shutter is halfpressed so that the EVF image is stabilized. If not IBIS will only kick in when shutter is fully pressed. So it's a good idea to keep it on, though I think it prob means higher battery consumption.

To make sure yr IBIS is on, check that it is in mode 1 (default) or mode 2/3 if you know what you are doing.

Digital Magazine OM-D JPEG Color Accuracy test....OM-D sure beat others...

Jokes aside, two bodies work very well for shooting with primes. And doable only because they are so light. For the lighter side of things, as some pple have pointed out, its for vanity hah :)
Hahaha!! First time in my life too!

Just posting some shots and hope that this may help anyone who is deciding between silver or black. I will post my thoughts but please feel free to look at the photos to judge for yourself.

Black on black....sorry for the lack of DOF. Forgot to control my aperture. :-)

Black on silver.

I personally think that the battery grip goes better with the black. Not to say it does not look good on the silver, in fact, I think they both look good, but if you wanna say which is better, the texture on the grip fits better with the texture used on the black E-M5

Personally, I think the black panasonic lenses do look better on the black E-M5. The silver Oly lenses look better on the silver E-M5. So if you have or use more of the panasonic lenses, the black would be a better match.

One thing bad about the silver is that the detachable flash is black. I think that the black flash do not look that great on the silver E-M5. Fortunately, a way out of this is to use the EPL3 silver detachable flash instead :-)) or get the FL300R which is silver in colour.

Of course, in general, the black E-M5 is way stealthier than the silver and can literally blend into your hands as a non-descript camera from afar.

I think that Olympus has deliberately designed and positioned these cameras this way. The silver is more for those into looks or aesthetics....hence, priority is on looking good and being compact. The black, is more business.....no-nonsense functionality thus melding better with the battery grips and the flash. Personal epiphanies here...so feel free to chip in.

I agree, might consume more battery than normal. Still playing around with my new camera. :)

I will go for the silver as it reminds me of my SLR film days in the 60's and 70's. Also, can't afford to own 2 bodies, so the silver is more neutral to both black and silver lenses. My long wait for the Sony E mount G zoom is over as it's rumoured to be another f3.5-5.6 lens, so I have decided to switch to 0M-D silver with P 12-35f2.8, 45f1.8, 75f1.8 and possibly either a cv 17.5f0.95 or 25f0.95. Which flash, not too big, is best for "fill flash" casual usage indoor with the lenses I mentioned? Many thanks.

I've ordered a silver body, but now I'm a bit hesitated for the following reasons:

1. I've beening in love w/ my G3 for over 6mths, and still love it. IQ is good enough for me, and I do think it got some better (IMO) features over OMD (bigger viewfinder, articulating screen, simpler menu system, built-in flash, 90g lighter, easier to turn on/off w/ one hand, no rattle sound w/ 25/1.4 lens, and etc.)
2. I'm a bit worried about the viewfinder cup of OM-D, and those small covers for the flash socket. Heard those are easy to come off or lose?
3. The buttons are too small on OM-D, some buttons are hard to reach or press. There is no indicators on the four way buttons other than arrows. On G3 (and my Pentax dSLR cameras) there are dedicated functions for these four way buttons which I quite like to use.
4. The rear e-dial is a bit too high and too far to reach easily, have to move thumb a bit.
5. The on/off button isn't easy to reach when holding the camera w/ one hand (I loved the experience when I took photos w/ G3 when cycling in Beijing)

I know it's a good camera w/ better IQ (especially in JPG) and better white balance under certain light condition. WR isn't a must for me due to lack of WR lenses (I love it on my Pentax though), IBIS isn't that useful when shooting kids (which I do the most w/ G3 anyway).

I might still get the OM-D eventually (if I can't cancel the order), but probably would keep G3 between these two...

i'm looking for a silver body urgently... anyone know which shop sells the silver body at a decent price? pls pm me as i'm heading out to sell my OMD black!
thanks people :DD

You can use the modular flash that is given, or the next size up is the old FL20 (black), followed by the newer FL300R (silver), and finally, the FL600R (black and overpriced locally). Of course there is also the FL36R and FL 50R monsters. Metz has equivalent flashes too, but I find that they do not seem to work so well with the 4/3 cameras in my experience although they have more functionality. For me, if I can get by with the modular flashes, that would be great. Otherwise, would probably pair with the FL20 or the FL300R depending on the body colour. Haha!
