your macro photos are nice and sharp,
you only need to work on your flash intensity

you might want to consider modifying your flash setup

Wheee! 1st lesson from the Guru. Thanks for the comment Otega. I'm using Sigma DG500 with Omibounce and directed away from the subject but still harsh. Best is direct lighting but somehow my flash photography is very bad. If shotting Macro with flash what setting should I use? I normally use spot metering and ettl with -2/3ev on the flash.

Another of my Pinky shot at home. Toying with a slave flash to light up from both sides.

I was preparing for my weekend Birding trip when my kids came in and play with my camo nets and jungle hat so I just shoot a few pjotos since its cute.

Cant resist posting this shot. I had been trying to get this shot for a while. I was actually shooting birds when I came across this pair. Took me almost 30 minutes to pan and follow this pair (or could be another pair) and result in this 1 shot 1 kill.

note: image quality not very good as subject are fast moving

nice bg, looks like a painting

i have been trying to catch df in flight as well, but so far i have got nothing to show
this image could do with some fill flash
the flash would also help freeze the DFs

Thanks for the reminder Ortega. Was too disappointed with my birding shots that day that I forget to use my flash. I kept my flash as its range was too short for the birds and was obstructing. I'm still processing some macro shots (without flash but harsh sunlight).

Had not done Macro for a while. Shot this in direct sunlight hence the harshness. Sifu Ortega (I got the name right liao) please commend on how to reduce harshness in direct sunlight. I use yr style, ie in Tv piority mode.

to soften the shadows from the sun

the hard way - put a diffuser material between the sun and your subject

the easier way - use fill flash to lighten the shadows

I was at MOG yesterday shooting Birds when it rains. I took shelter at a nearby shed and suddenly I heard something falling from the nearby tree and landed on the bushes beside the shed. Upon closer look, I saw this little snake so I took some shots. Out of the 30 over shots only this one can make it after a bit of cropping. I dont dare to go nearer even though I have a macro lens attached.

Good catch, bro.
Thanks Bro. The snake might be saying: "This photographer looks yummy"

i must say that is good reflexes and fast thinking to catch the snake.
perfect timing on getting the pose
snake is in focus
bg bokeh is nice but the lighter areas distract -> PS in some colour
composition wise there is too much oof leaf/grass on the left hand side -> recrop for better composition
Flash output is a little too strong for me

That only one out of 30+ shots. This is already a heavyly croped photo. The little snake was fast and hides in a thick bush. After viewing this shot on my newly calibrated monitor, it looks wash out. Gotta PS it again. The flash was hard to control here as the snake moves too fast and moves from dart to bright areas. Should have stop down my flash output a bit.

Thanks for pointing out the areas I overlooked.
