I also suffered from eczema a while back. Went to a couple of GPs and totally did not help, until I visit a specialist in Mt alvernia who gave me oral steroids.
That helped. I think steroids can stop eczema and the thing is how to stop it from coming back. You really have to take steroids to stop the eczema and let the skin heal cuz I think once I had serious eczema, it is impossible to use other milder medicine as the scratch is soo maddening and stressing and it is basically a POSITIVE feedback.
For my case, after the eczema stopped from the steroid medication and the itch stopped, I am more conscious of the eczema. For my case, I don't really know what was the trigger but I THINK it is stress related. Once the itch stopped, you FEEL better, less stressed. Changes to my lifestyle was I used QV wash instead of stronger soaps, don't go out often when it is hot, changed to loose boxers instead of tight clothing which can irritate my skin. Cut those labels from my shirts that were irritaing my skin.
Now, I get minor eczema nowadays, but when they appear, I just tell myself relax, nothing to worry about as you had conquered it once. For me, I think the MAIN trigger was stress, psychological.
