Any experienced cinematographer would know how to sync sound with an external stereo mic and control focus using the focus ring. I'll rather have the ability to have that control which opens up for more creative purposes than be stuck with autofocus...

If you're just shooting for fun, the mono sound output shouldn't be a deal-breaker. ;)

The video mode on the D90 is meant for just that, shooting for fun. Must always remember the video is a value-add on the D90, not the reason for the D90's existence.

Why don't you guys save money and wait for the D90 to settle down in terms of price and firmware first? :) I suspect it will be a very popular camera for hobbyists but will wait a while first for the initial excitement to settle and meanwhile just enjoy early adoptors photos :)

Wait? How long? 1 month , 6 months, a year? Maybe it is better to get the tried and tested D80.

I think you are wrong.. People with ASC in their titles are raving about this.

If you are looking thru the ASC scope, then I'd have to agree with you.

However I am looking at it from a photographer's point of view, in a photography forum. If I get the D90, I get an up-to-date DSLR camera for photography, not a "supposedly HD Videocam with DSLR capability and dang!, its video mode lacks this and that and etc etc etc."

So I still hold firm. The video is a value add to a potentially marvellous DSLR camera from Nikon.

Hahaha... Now I see where you're driving at.. ;p Yeah.. But if Nikon intended the video feature to stop at that, then they might probably have created a monster that even RED is taking notice.

One more from dvxuser forum. http://vimeo.com/1720563

There's even a thread on how to get good videos out of the D90.

I sold my D80 in anticipation of the D90 but got tired of waiting and bought the D300 last Fri!

Please tell us how u feel when the D90 is out, hehe, joking

The D90's movie mode generates a lot of interest..i think very soon other manufacturer will follow suit

Indeed. I'm still following this camera with much interest. I wonder if Nikon will make further improvements with the video mode. I really love the colours and dynamic range from the videos. No highly compressed DR and flat colours like those from most video cameras.

i am still waiting to get my hands on one
