then i deem it as an downgrade of d80.

What if it is priced as same price as D80?

Exactly the same as D300: 51 af pt, good high iso performance, better battery performance, live view, duster.

then i would buy it immediately. lol. That's exactly what i want.

and there will definitely be a screw.... there are just tooo many lenses out there which cant do without one.

not if Nikon updates its primes to AFS ;)

[speculation mode on]

and heck, if they implement a modular camera (not the D90 but some higher end system) which can change between a dedicated still capture module and a dedicated motion picture capture module, they can give RED a run for its money...

That's exactly my thoughts... I don't need 6mp @60fps. 1080p@24/25/30fps would be ideal. ;p

not to mention the use of Nikon lenses and with continuous autofocus... ;)

Nikon lenses yes... ZF lenses too!! I'm not too sure about the continuous AF though.. Would the camera be able to perform AF when the signal from the sensor is being used for recording? If so, then it's quite useful because you'll probably get to choose the AF area as well. ;p

I'm sure a technical solution to getting continuous AF should be possible... might not be as good as the ones for still cams, but after all, cheap video cams seem to be able to do it... ;)

Just a quick question since we're talking about the D90, and the possible specifications on the camera.

How much of a draw is live-view for most seasoned amateurs here? I presume the D90 is meant more for the seasoned amateur as it sits between the D40/D60 entry level series and the D300 pro series. Is live-view really that important, in say the D90, to you?

Hi..I used to think that too: is Live-view really ..important...
After my friend got a 450D, Live-view play a useful tool when metering @ taking landscape or when manual focusing...

My conclusion: it is not very Important, but it is definitely a Good Tool to have.

Aha another kopi session can be arrange when the first batch is available ;) and if response is good. Thom Hogan's "leaked" is never known to be wrong - look out for the official announcement.

OT = too much burgers bad for health :bsmilie:

The MAN has spoken... Brace yourself for the D90!

My eyes are more on D3x and new AFs prime.. If the rumours are to be believed.

Make it in a real kopi tiam, then.

i think the 1080 is talking about the hdmi output connectors and not HD quality video

I don't need video recording... D90 seen to be targeting families who wants a camera and a video recorder in a package.
Live view can always be useful if I am shooting above my eye level, that's about it. Some need it, some don't.

Olympus micro four-thirds honestly got my attention more even though I am a nikon user; to each own of course.

PS: the lens is interesting at least! But like some others, I would prefer AFS primes.

actually, sometime i bring a P&S along with my D80 to take some videos

nice to have but not a need (depends on the quality)
then don't need to take 8fps to make animated gif anymore

Hahahaha...i vaguely remember you dropped some hints on video in the D700 kopi session...looks like things are getting interesting :)

Personally for me, it'll be another option as a camera for travel since the D90 has the GPS connector.

It's a bit heavy for me to lug my D200 when backpacking.

makes a good traveling companion if the video mode is up to spec against regular video camcorders.

oh yea, if doing video can only do contrast focusing cant use the camera's AF sensors cuz mirror will be up. Lol, i'm still quite doubtful abt the video record thingy cuz errr seriously, a DSLR recording video?? lol! It would be fantastic if nikon updates all it's primes to af-s but 2 things, 1 prob wont happen, 2 d90 will still have to cater to those ppl with old primes. Actually i dont quite like the AF-S idea totally cuz with screw focusing, nikon can boast that it's lenses do not have any motors in them which can spoil after many years whereas all canons have at least 2 motors in their lenses! (1 for AF, 1 for Aperture)
