Haha. Talking about being poisoned, i was recently being poisoned to go into macro. Any suggestions on which macro lens produces the best result on d90?? Result in terms of image sharpness and performance.

Depends on what you want to shoot. All the Micro-Nikkors are really good.

guys,

I am wondering what software do you guys used to process D90 raw files.

I have ACR5.7 and viewnx. Which one is better?

Pro for ACR
1) easier on my workflow as integrated with Photoshop
2) auto mapping out of hot pixels. I have one red one.
3) highlight defringe a substitute for auto CA removal in viewnx???
4) less heavy NR. Viewnx seems by default applies some NR to ISO3200 which I cannot remove.
5) ACR introduced D2X mode 1 color profile so it will be pretty close to viewnx colors.

Pro for ViewNX
1) its nikon
2) auto CA removal but does not map out hot pixel

any thoughts on this? my main concern is about CA as the afs 50mm f1.4 lens which will live on my D90 show a fair bit of CA.

ViewNX will read your picture styles settings and apply them as the default when opening the RAW file. So when you first open the RAW file, it will look just like the JPEG version. Actually you get more controls in Capture NX2. ViewNX is the free version and severely limited.

ACR5 will default to +50 brightness +25 contrast automatically.

If you do not mind adjusting the variables everytime, it is fine to use ACR. And yes defringe is CA removal.

By the way, ACR version 6 is much better. You can load barrel distortion correction lens profiles. But ACR6 can only be used in CS5. CS4 can only use version ACR5. My suggestion is to buy the CS5 upgrade. It is worth it.

It really depends on individual preferences really. I, for one, never liked a all-in-one superzoom. You get convenience of focal length but you lose out in fast apertures. Like a jack of all trades but master of none. The only time I see these kind of lens as useful is when travelling and weight and convenience is of utmost importance.

u may wan to look at the 70-300mm len if u are keeping the kit lens

I understand that IQ will be compromised when using all these super zoom.. so wondering if its worth the sacrifice for the convenience..

I second the idea of a telephoto zoom lens, instead of a super-zoom.
I honestly think it's really hard to create a lens that can handle wide-angles and telephoto, without quite significant compromises in optical design.

My recommendation would be (in increasing order of cost)
1) 55-200 VR
2) 70-300 VR
3) 80-200/2.8
4) 70-200/2.8 VR

for the convenience that why i was tinking of getting the superzoom..

It has the longest reach but read that above 200mm the AF starts to hunt..

Lazy to switch lens that's why.. Haha..

My preference is still shooting with primes..

you prefer primes, but lazy to switch lenses? huh??????

I dunno how to help you then...
:dunno:

What I meant is most of the time I go out I mount either 50mm or 30mm..

Looking at longer reach esp when I go to zoo or outings..

If so lazy, why get DSLR in the first place? Sell it all and get a prosumer super zoom. Problem solved.

Had it a long time ago.. no way am I going back to that..

Muahahhaha!.... my digital view is now enlarged to 109 degrees... Once I've settled my filters, I'll be able to join you guys for some light-catching business....:bsmilie:
