u can buy a 30L cabi from john316. costs $118. big enough for a newbie. can put 1 x d300 and a couple of lenses and accessories.

i thought the pros were pretty obvious. lol...ok not nice as in its too small, and the buttons...well its too simple and its not easy using manual mode as there's only 1 scroll wheel. its very very user friendly. very simple to use, like a PnS. if u come from a canon Pns, the 550D will feel very natural.

compared to 550D and 50D:
d90 is better built. has the grid thingy in the viewfinder. got the top panel lcd - it helps a lot. has more AF points. i switched to nikon because of the DX lenses. i like wad nikon offers for DX format shooters. and the d90 has built-in wireless flash commander.

and i prefer the colors of the d90 compared to the canons.

Just today, I went down to the Canon show room at Vivocity and fiddled around with the 550D. I see what you meant by the PnS interface. The 550D rear body ergonomics is a small departure from the rest of the pack (50D, 500D, 7D, etc). And the setting for continuous shooting is as obvious as the icon on which button to press (as I'm interested on how that feature performed). It was the opposite for the rest of the models as I still don't know how to set up continuous shoots on them - yeah I didn't read up on the bodies, can you blame me? Whereas 550D was pretty intuitive if you just look around for the icons.

Size-wise? It feels smaller and lighter than the D90 - definitely targetting the D5000 spectrum. Whereas, 50D feels similar to D90.

One thing I noticed, the rubbery grip on the 550D demo piece was already coming off before I held it - is that due to constant abuse? I think they ought to replace that demo piece - if I'm a prospective 550D, I would immediately question the quality control of that model... Has this happened to D90 before? Could any veteran D90 users (or other makes) share his/her experience? I think the 550 rubber stands a chance to fall off is probably due to the fact that the entire grip wraps around the bulge - when the glue underneathe wears off, there goes the rubber!

D90 has no rubber grip I think...

D200. D300 also have the problem of peeling rubber grip material. Surprisingly, the D70 did not have this problem. I guess all manufacturers are trying to cut costs.

i dun like canon's rubber grip on the 550D, 50D or 7D. abit too "sticky" for my liking. lol!

I asked for the price of the D90 kit at this camera shop opposite Funan SportsLink and I was quoted $1450. Seems to be much cheaper than other shops. Was wondering if there's anything "wrong" with the set or why this shop hasn't been mentioned in the forums.

The package has the usual stuff like batt, mem card, bag etc + tripod.

Btw my friend got his d5000 kit from there at $990 and so far seems ok.

The price is around this range plus-minus. Not sure if it's opposite SportksLink but I got my D90 @ your quoted price.

hi all,

recently i help to take a nite indoor event shooting...

im using d90..wif 18-105 lens

cos i tink ple will be moving so i use shutter priority(1/10) and i set iso to 320 and flash..
my af mode is dynamic and AF-A.
too busi and no time to check most of the shot, then i realise some shot is blur at the end so i change to 1/15 but still some are blur.

realise that my pics only the focus point is focus the rest is blur...not sure cos my shutter is nt fast enuff or my focus setting is wrong..

i do not have ext flash tats y i scare if i put too fast it will be too white or too dark..

can any expert gif any advice on indoor shooting and ple moving quite fast..they wont stop n pose for you,..
please help cos i will need to help take some indoor shot again soon.
is the af mode wrong or i shd use AF-S etc?

presto:

to freeze the action, use higher shutter speed.

you probably have to increase the iso. 320 is too low for night events.

For D90, up the ISO to 800 or 1600, the image is still good. That will buy you 1-2 stops. I'd suggest using AF-S mode and lock your focus where you want it rather than guessing if it's focusing properly. If you're zoomed in most of the time, then you'll have a tough time. Zoom out and go closer to the subject. Otherwise, get a 35/1.8 for such lighting conditions.

i dont recommend using the scenes... use manual.

ladies and gentlemen,
I just join the D90 family! so excited to explore my first DSLR!!
