mmm the sound rather irritating lol!!! my brother in law has a 35mm same thing but his louder, he brought it back to NSC they say its normal, but he insist that it just sound not right.., well they accepted it and return it back to him in a couple of days, at first no sound the normal shoom...shoom sound and then it starts again... it sounds like the something circular scratching metal, errr issit due to lac of grease?? lol but i read around the lubrication dun dry off easily..

I am wondering, could it be the sound from the VR? Try turning off the VR, and see if the sounds are still there.

Also, in any DSLR, there will be some sound from the AF. In quiet moments, it will appear to be louder. And once you notice it, you will strain to hear it and it will appear even louder and louder. You cannot expect it to be as silent as a PnS. One side note, my old 18-55 and my curent Tamron 17-50 sounded pretty 'loud' and obvious too. But I have been around older film cameras, which are many times louder, IMHO.

errrr... my d90 also close to a year now, but dun have such problem, only a few times when using 18-105 kit lens, the AF will suddenly die (only can MF), but a simple remount of the lens willl get the AF back to work again. guess it's because of the plastic mount.. :bsmilie:

oo ****..then i tink has to go nsc to chk liao..
but such intermittent prob i tink they will nt entertain...cos i can reproduce all the time..

never own a DSLR b4..
is it a must to own a dry cabinet?..

or a lock & lock box with silica gel will do?

Now, to open the seal, and expose the BBB virus...

Should I slowly work my way up the Trinity lenses? :bsmilie:

*inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale* finger on the trigger.... First one in the target acquisitioning device.... *take a really deep breath* 70-200m f/2.8 VR II...

IMHO, dry cabinet is not a must, but definitely good to get to protect your optical equipments from fungus growth. Some users may use their cameras+lens everyday, then don't really need a dry cabinet.

For using silica gel and lock box, you got to check whether the silica gel already moisted, and if the silica gel didn't get changed frequently and its that period without checking and getting risk of fungus in your precious expensive equipments, quite troublesome I find it. Ask my friends, they all have dry cabinets. Some have two in fact. :bsmilie:

A friend once told me... you have a $$$$ equipment, are you going to protect it with just $$ material? And just a $$ tripod (that easily tips over crashes your equipment)? If your equipment is a worthy investment, then think no less of the protection it should receive. To me, that is a really sound advice... Or would you prefer to send to NSC for cleaning service everytime fungus grows? Each service charge will no doubt add up to a really good Dry cabinet, think about that?

its a must to get a dry cabinet. seriously. i had a friend who didnt get one and 1.5 yrs later, all his investment was gone....u want that to happen to u ah?

wow..
now that sounds scary..
hahaha..

time to read up on which cabinet to buy..
time for more reading..

Set aside about $100 to $300 for a moderately sized cabinet (depending on how far you're planning to go (lens, etc etc etc).

Yes, do read up. Not only Photography is an expensive past-time (particularly for DSLRers) but it is also a TIME-consuming one as well. A well-informed person helps save time and most importantly COST!
