D90 User Group

Question - as the D90 been REALLY surpassed by any competition model so far? Lets disregard comparisons on Video mode or other non-image related issues... If not, the D90 still has some lengths to go!

Has the recent 550D knocked D90 off its pedestal yet? I dunno, as it didn't affect me in my firm decision on the D90! :bsmilie:

i owned the 550D for one month, den DBT. sold it for the d90. btw i was on the 50D too, sold it too. Now that i have the d90, i say its the best cam i ever owned. Ok so the d90's AF isn't cross-type like 50D, and that can be quite a pain for events.

My verdict is: D90 is best value for money. 550D was...not nice to use la even with battery grip. But the high ISO noise reduction performance is WOW - really like 7D. and it is about time d90 gets refreshed to match up with the 550D and 7D. From wad i feel, d90 produces as much noise as the 50D (or maybe more). and if the 50D gets refreshed, the d90 should too. But then again, a newer model doesn't make an older model a lousy camera. that's why i got the d90. the price is too good! =D

i thought the pros were pretty obvious. lol...ok not nice as in its too small, and the buttons...well its too simple and its not easy using manual mode as there's only 1 scroll wheel. its very very user friendly. very simple to use, like a PnS. if u come from a canon Pns, the 550D will feel very natural.

compared to 550D and 50D:
d90 is better built. has the grid thingy in the viewfinder. got the top panel lcd - it helps a lot. has more AF points. i switched to nikon because of the DX lenses. i like wad nikon offers for DX format shooters. and the d90 has built-in wireless flash commander.

and i prefer the colors of the d90 compared to the canons.

Is your dry cabinet set below 40%RH?

well.. 2nd day i haven get a dry cabi yet.. but placed it in a room, i mean does 1 day make such a sound??? lol then i mean abit wrong lay...

haaaa ya.. called them lol but today no time go down haaa brought my camera out in the afternoon and then back hm in a quite environment then notice the sound lol.. well will go down nikon to ask them check ba.. since i going to collect freebies.. =D

i notice u are using 18-105...i use that too. and it has been very silent when focusing leh. hmm...i think there might be some problems. best to have it checked out.

No.. focusing should be rather quiet.. it should not squeak with a loud geeee sound. Otherwise a soft shhhhhhk-shhhhhhk kind of sound is normal.

jus discover these feew days

normally when u can AF, the screen will show a AF sign(.) and a beep sound rite and then u can fire off the shutter..
this is always been the case. but recently i encounter..haveing AF sign and beep sound but i cant fire...refocus on other spot also cant

i need ot off and on then i can AF and fire..this is not a isolated case.encounter a few times.

is this norm..my cam is almost goin to be a yr soon..dun tell me so fast going to spoil.

errrr... my d90 also close to a year now, but dun have such problem, only a few times when using 18-105 kit lens, the AF will suddenly die (only can MF), but a simple remount of the lens willl get the AF back to work again. guess it's because of the plastic mount.. :bsmilie:

No.. focusing should be rather quiet.. it should not squeak with a loud geeee sound. Otherwise a soft shhhhhhk-shhhhhhk kind of sound is normal.

mmm the sound rather irritating lol!!! my brother in law has a 35mm same thing but his louder, he brought it back to NSC they say its normal, but he insist that it just sound not right.., well they accepted it and return it back to him in a couple of days, at first no sound the normal shoom...shoom sound and then it starts again... it sounds like the something circular scratching metal, errr issit due to lac of grease?? lol but i read around the lubrication dun dry off easily..:think:
