Hi Gurus, need some help here. Can the Nikkor ED 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D VR fit the D90? I am quite lost in the different types of mounts ...etc..etc....

Thanks in advance.

Of cos it fits (though there might be imbalance issues as the lens dwaft the body.)
BTW, thats a FF lens, u will end up with and POV 120-600mm when paired with your D90 factoring the crop.. U had to tk tat into consideration... There are known slow AF issues as well.. and what types of mounts are u talking abt here? It's a NIKON lens. So u got it? :)

Take the plunge? Aiyo I have been feeling this urge to just go and get it and then don't look back. Don't wanna look around for anymore alternatives because it's getting confusing. I don't wanna switch loyalties and I will stick to Nikon for sure!

Oh but what lens can I get along with the D90? I need it to shoot high-speed moving cars and races. Please advise, thanks!

Believe me, 70-200 VR1 will suffice for now~
Look for it in the used market.
Thats what i am using now. :)

Thanks! this is good info.

...naturally my concern is the functional ability of the D90 with that lens, couplings, connections etc...etc..its driving me nuts, compared to the Ais that I used to play with...:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Thanks again, bro, greatly appreciate your time & feedback!

AFS 70-200 VRII F2.8 is the one you should get.

ooh thanks for the advice, am going to get the D90 after i return from BKK.

btw, is the video function useful? do you use it often?

i was just thinking, if i don't need the video function, then i shld just get a D5000 or D3000 right? but then again, nono vid function is quite useful too.

aiyo sorry for sounding so confused :p

i dont use it much, but it's good to have =)

its better to have it than not to. d5000 has video too btw. just imagine u nid to capture something in video and u did not bring out ur pns camera ;) so i'd say even if u don use it, it might come in handy one day

Never used the video function.

But D90 is a lot more than just video. You should look at the comparison websites to understand more.

Hi all,

I have just gotten my D90 last Nov and am new to photography. Currently, I am seeking to get a new lens but I have a question, hope you guys can help me out.

I wanted to get a third party lens - Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX. However, a friend of mine advice me not to as I will face a problem of needing to bring the lens for re-calibration for my camera.
I wonder is this true and how often do you encounter this with third party lens?

Thank you very much in advance. :)

hi bro/sis, just got my D90 today. happy with it and now, i will read the manual and 'molest' the camera first.

btw, need some advice from bro/sis here. not to sure i kena carrot or not. when bought the cam, the salesman offered me tamron 18-200mm lens instead the kit lens, in additioned i have to top-up $300. of course, for me to have all-in-one lens will be the plus point. my question is, does the top-up $300 is worth the money?

i know some of you will said., "hey, u already boought it what!" but i just want to know. TIA

i wonder what your friend means by need to bring lens for re-calibration.
i had been using Tokina 11-16mm for few months .. the only thing i find abt this lens is that it is a GREAT UWA lens ... i used it mainly for landscape

You may have already realised, but just in case you are not aware, unlike many PnS, the D90 Video mode is in manual focus, it will not do AF. As advise by the instruction manual, use the camera AF to lock on, then switch over to video. Alternatively do manual focusing.

Then just use it. Whether it's worth the additional $300 depends a lot on what you do with it, so you're actually the one in control whether you make the lens worth the additional $300 or not. ;p

Tokina 116 is an excellent UWA. I never heard of anyone needing to bring it in for recalibration. I for one has been enjoying it since I got it last month. I have been considering to get it for many many months before I got it. Should have gotten it earlier. Here is one of the pics I took with the Toki 116.

There are some other lenses from Tamron or Sigma that have more probability of back/front focus issues but even for those, if you test the copies properly before selecting one and paying for it, you will not run into problems. Even if you got one with some issues, all you need to do is to bring it into the service center to get it recalibrated one time, and you are done.

Guys just checking whether is this a good deal for D90 with kit (including 8gb memory card, lowepro bag, cleaning kit, screen protector) all for $1630

I think he meant that at certain focal length, the auto-focus does not focus well enough because the fact that it is third party lens.
So this renders recalibration to make sure at all focal lengths, auto-focus does not give you this problem.

But again, I am not sure if that's what he meant.

Thanks

Just check the Nikon price guides under price guides section. Look at the quoted prices and make your own call.
