I think he meant that at certain focal length, the auto-focus does not focus well enough because the fact that it is third party lens.
So this renders recalibration to make sure at all focal lengths, auto-focus does not give you this problem.

But again, I am not sure if that's what he meant.

Thanks

I think TS was referring to the back/front focusing issues that plague some lenses from 3rd party manufacturers like Tamron and Sigma.

Nothing to do with focusing ability at certain focal length. 3rd party lenses are capable of auto focusing at all focal lengths. Inability to do so is a serious flaw that no recalibration can fix.

And I have already given a response to his question if you read more carefully here.

Actually, I was wondering if you were replying to me in that previous post, as you have quoted someone else's post.
But thanks, I get what you meant and maybe I really don't understand what my friend meant.
Still very new to photography... :embrass:

This is taken last month at Changi airport. Nice or not I don't know. First real shot taken with my new Tokina 116.

What lens would u all recommend for taking objects that are far?

Hmmm..say twice the distance of the 18-105VR lens

If you mean you want twice the reach of 18-105, the following lens are recommended:

Nikon 55-200mm VR
Nikon 18-200mm VR (all in one lens)
Tamron 18-270mm VC (all in one lens, 3rd party)
Nikon 70-300mm VR (if you need more than 200mm)
Nikon 70-200mm VR F2.8 (if you need F2.8, very expensive)

These are the more popular choices. There is also a cheaper Nikon 70-300mm non-VR. I wouldn't recommend it although it is dirt cheap.

What lens would u all recommend for taking objects that are far?

Depends on hw far (which determines the focal length u migt need) and hw deep ur pockets goes. :)

What kind of objects to be exact? Still or in motion?

Using manily for Daylight or Lowlight?

Comfortable working with zooms or primes?

We have : -
55-200 (DX)
70-300 (FX)
70-200 (FX)
80-200 (FX)
80-400 (FX)
200 (FX)
300 (FX)
400 (FX)
500 (FX)
600 (FX)
200-400 (FX) to name a few...

You see.. choices are plenty..

Ok guys - I am on the dark side too. Finally got me a D90 (was never in two minds but was waiting for a bit of cash :)). Have been a Nikon user for about 20 years now - in sequence F601 then F801 and then F80 (then P80 to pass time) and now D90. Look forward to exchanging notes out here. Happy shooting !

My tuppence - if you can (and want to), do pick up "David Busch's guide to D90 photography" - its a good book and explains the workings of the camera in greater detail. You could check out the contents on Amazon. Its available at Kinokuniya for $ 40 or so.

Hi,

i am new to this forum. May I ask where did you get the D90 from the the price you paid for it. I am actually thinking of getting a D90 too. Did the package come with the 35-105mm VR lens as well?

Sorry if these are the wrong questions to ask here.

Cheers.
