I dun think D90 is able to create HDR img if i nt wrong~, but i use the bkt function which allows me to shoot 3 image and automatically sets fr me + ,- for 2 of them, and by using photomatic i am able to create a HDR image. tried and work but the pictures are nt fit to be viewed here =X:thumbsd:

Sony can do in camera HDR. But anyway, I think end of the day, still need to adjust before blending...:)

Anyone here using a combination of Nikon 17-55 f2.8 DX on a D90. Is the quality of the photo really worth the price of the lens? Any good shots to share?? Thanks.:)

I cannot afford that lens.

Thats why I got the Tamron 17-50.

rather spend the money on tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC

To what I know, you are not alone...haha...

Actually, I can afford it, if I mentally decide to have one lens forever and ever, ah-man. But alas, we mortals always desire so much more...

I betrayed the D90 for a used D300s few mths ago & the 17-55 & resultant combi is excellent. I still kept the Tammy VC for indoor & night use but the Nikon still wins big in day time use.

Yes D90 can't produce HDR on the spot.. Only exposure bracketing.

These exposures can be anywhere from a 1/3 to a full stop apart and be used to create an HDR image if you expose the complete range of tones in your bracketed frames - HDR software is relatively easy to learn - Photomatix is consider the better of the third party products, but you can also use Photoshop CS.

And it should be Photomatix. :)
Thanks! Then bracketing shots is the only thing I can do then? Need to upgrade to the latest CS soon... at the moment still using an Oldie! :bsmilie:

Thanks, same recommendation as Numnumball with Photomatix - I'll take a look at it. :D

The problem is I don't plan to switch to Sony JUZ because it can do HDR on the spot! :D D90 is my no. 1 and I intend to squeeze every bit of juice out of it!

Bro... and you still say you don't poison people... :bsmilie:

Cannot la. Cannot go FX for the next 2-3 years.

I heard you mentioned your baby boy rite?:)
It's a muz to sacrifice for the next generation;p

Bracketing is enough. Some don't even use bracketing because they might want to dial more to vary the exposure.;p
whatever that's auto, take it with a pinch of salt. Coz auto might not suit your taste.

anybody thinks its wise to buy a d90 now? :(

The D90 is really a good camera. The images at high ISO is clean and the colours are vibrant, dun noe how Nikon is gonna top that while maintaining affordability?? In mine opinion its still a good buy now. Comparing price and image quality, D90 is at the pinnacle:)

Buy now, you can start using now. Buy later, you cannot start using now.

D90 is in itself a very good camera. When the next replacement comes out (rumored to be Aug), the D90 will remain a good camera. And D90 already got a big price drop several weeks back. The new replacement when just released, will be selling at close to RRP for a few months. So do you want to wait 5-6 more months? Or buy now and start using?

Honestly, for the most of us, we cannot even use the camera to its full potential. So why even think about what is better and newer?

ahhh I agree. but I'm very torn between the 300s and the d90. sigh anyone have the d90 with the phottix grip?

I went from D90 to D300s recently. I can tell you honestly, unless you really need the additional features, it makes more sense to stay with the D90. The image quality and high ISO performance is almost identical. They use the same sensor and the image processor.

I wouldn't have moved to the D300s if it was a pure upgrade. A family member needed a camera and I decided to give away my D90. Got a D300s in its place to make full use of all the manual lenses we have in the family for more than 30 years.

So if I am starting new with no legacy lenses, and choosing between D300s and D90, I would still buy the D90.

ah i see, looking for an upgrade path from D50. since you came from both d90 and d300s, is color rendition the same? how is the build of the d90? because i feel that my d50 is abit small for me, and seeing the dimensions, d90 is roughly the same as the d50.

Color looks similar to me.

I find the AF system in D300s to be slightly faster and a lot more accurate than the D90. That, plus 51 AF points, which can get overwhelming sometimes. But you can control number of active AF points according to your needs. D300s also allow you to save settings set for camera and custom menus (separately). Allows me to save my settings for different shooting situations, and I can call it up very quickly. The most useful feature for me is the ability to meter with non-cpu manual focus lenses.

D90 is more the size of the D70. It actually holds better than a D70. I like the D90 built too, material used is nice, plastic, but no plasticky feeling. feels rock solid.

D300s is quite a bit larger and heavier. Magnesium alloy body, and weather sealing. Thing is the D200, D300 are notorious for the rubber grip material coming loose and peeling. So if you do go the D300s route, be mentally prepared that it will happen soon (most report 1-2 years).

And also, I do not believe in grips. I like to travel as light as possible.

But for image quality, I have to say they are identical.
