ha ok, thanks for checking also, that ease my worry.
hey daredevil, would you mind share your equipment list? New to nikon, and not sure what should i focus to invest.

My equipment is all cheapo or very old stuff... but here goes:

Nikon D90 + extra battery
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 non-VC
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AFD
Nikon 55-200 AFS VR
Nikon 24-120 AFD
Nikon 50mm f/1.2 Ais
Nikon SB-600 flash with several diffusers (Demb, FongDong, Stofen).
Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote.
Cokin P filter system: GND2,GND4,ND4,ND8,CPL
and other CPLs, UVs, Clear filters.
2 cheapo tripods for travel: Velbon CX-570 + one china one
Manfrotto 190xprob + 488RC2 + Camdapter mount (on camera) + handstrap

BTW, buying camera equipment is not "investment" unless taking pictures is how you make a living. Depreciation will happen irregardless and, with modern digital stuff, things lose value very quickly.

Also buying what equipment depends greatly on what you want to shoot as well. My setup is mostly for landscape and occasionally, kids/family. I am looking to add a UWA to my list in the future. For example, if you intend to go to organized model-shoots to shoot XMM, you equipment list will be very different from mine.

What do you mean renew shutter? You want a new shutter assembly installed?

Not sure if any D90 users here able to advise me on this, i m considering between the D90 (18-105) price at around $1699 with card, bag and tripod and the canon 500D kit II(18-200) with additional (50mm f1.8),8GB card, bag priced at $1667. I would be mostly taking pics of my 1year old son and for travel. Some friends told me canon is more user friendly while nikon pics are better/natural..

Both cameras are capable of very good pictures.

Specific details on the differences in features and performance can be found here:

We cannot make up your mind for you.

lol you post your qn here, ofcox i will tell u to choose D90. Initially i wanted to buy 500D with the hype cox everyday sure see 500D advertisment bus on the road. settled myself down and do more online research, at last this http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/en...294|0/(onglet)/0/(brand)/Canon/(brand2)/Nikon made my choice clear to buy D90. :D

Nikon is neither complicated than Canon, hence i will say Nikon is user friendly too.. ;)

Canon got bit larger range of lenses i must admit that, but for hobbist like me its ok. :)

I am one of them who convert myself from Canon to Nikon. Both are good brand for sure, just depends which you prefer. I learned about Canon system for a while and compare to my fren's Nikon and i was convienced that Nikon design is better for Photographer (purely personal opinion only), as you may think otherwise. Only after you try then you know.

Overall Canon lens cheaper than Nikon especially the higher grade one. I personally find that entry level camera and lens, comparatively speaking, Nikon is better.

Thanks for the feedback. Is it more worthwhile to get it from Sitex for Nikon?

Yesterday my friend bought a brandnew local set of D90 at Lucky Plaza for only $1200. On top of that he is able to for GST refund. So shocked that price of D90 is dropped so much.

I passed by lucky plaza today. Out of curiosity I asked some shops on D90 price. the one right front of the main entrance quoted me 1400, amazing price for a local set. Makes me wonder if there's hidden charges. John quoted me something like 1750

Hell No!

Look at other brands too. The new offerings from Sony and Pentax are very feature rich with very good performance with a much lower price tag than Canon or Nikon.
Sony A550
Pentax K-x

BTW the sensors in Nikon DSLRs are products of a joint effort with Sony. So A500 sensor should be the very similar to D90. A550 comes with a higher MP sensor. A500 and A550 are both released at the same time.

Don't flame me. Because I am a D90 user as well. Just that I want to be fair.

Hi hotzouk

U are very sure for $1677, you can get the canon 500D kit II(18-200) with additional (50mm f1.8),8GB card & bag? Wow, that's is really a good price!

One big feature why I choose any camera over another is the top LCD, the LCD shows you all the important settings at a glance. It's really a useful feature.

Some people have been saying they got a very good deal in those chopper shops at Lucky plaza. But the shutter count of the camera is like 18 when bought. Thing is, I saw some of these shops have so many D90 in inventory. I counted six in the glass counter at the store near the elevator. D90 is now in the mid of its sales life cycle. In a year or so its replacement will come, couple with all the strong competitors (A500, A550, K-x) on the horizon, some of them shops might be trying to get rid of some of their open box stock quickly.

Either that, the shop may be quoting for a body only? Who knows.

bros, a d90 user here...do u guys know where i can buy stuff to do time-lapse photography?..search web say d90 can't do interval shooting.

Since u are considering on Canon or Nikon, u can go to Sitex to try out the cameras. Grip, feel & weight etc... "Molest them" Since most of the brands would be there, they will have display cameras. U can even try the other brands like Sony, Pentax & Olympus. Grip and feel are important cos u're gonna use the cam to shoot. Best is to shoot comfortably.

Getting at Sitex is based on individual, some may like as they get more freebies, convenient etc..... some may not.
That said their price would be higher then some of the recommended shops. Even with their purchase w purchase items. The price would still be higher.

Anw, for this purchase w purchase items. U can still get the discounted price. Just like the SB 600 @ 299 at Comex 2009.

My 2 cents worth. ;)

hi .. ya. i think a new shutter assembly.. if does that so called "renew" the shutter count to zero. issit free before the warranty ends?
