hi there, just do a quick search for "recommended shops" in this particular thread should give u many suggestions...

if u really wannt go to Sim Lim, u can try Orient Photo (level 5 or 6) good feedback, n for Lucky Plaze, there's Lord's Photo... for Funan there's quite a number of good shops, but try to avoid Bally (lots of bad reviews)...

price wise, cash payment will give u the best price, but if u r tourist, maybe u can get the GST rebate too

ok thx for ur recommend thx !! :)

hi Kentbk, i would like to recommend u to get from MS color or Lords..
try not to get from Sim Lim as they usually are out there to con ppl..
lol..
if u search through CS there is this poll that most of CS members voted..
MS n lords both gave us impression on their services n price..
well..
i would suggest go near e shop u live nearer to..
if u often go that shop who knows they might give u more discount next time?
i already build up mine at MS..
haha..

Anybody realised when you switch on/off the live view is taken as 1 shutter count irregardless whether any shot taken? i was surprised when i checked how much shot i've taken with opanda exif viewer.
I searched abt this in google and tested again afterwards, turned out it's true...weird..

is it??
i thought switch between LV n OVF will hear the shutter sound only...instead its counted as 1 shot taken per switch?

Is that right? Gosh, sometimes I'd switch to LV & back & forth again to get a framing w/o due consideration so guess better stop this habit. Could it be due to the mirror flapping upwards and opening the shutter for the light to fall on the sensor hence causing the count?:dunno:

I'm not sure wether it's just mirror flapping or real shutter..but it did count (at least on software side). you can try it yourself ;)
take a pic, get the current shutter. switch on then off LV. get another pic and check the shutter which will be overlap by 2

i got my tamron at 970. yea, i'm not good in bargaining, but i'm still satisfied with it.
however, i encountered one minor problem for tamron on D90 in Live View mode, it seems that it couldn't lock the auto focus after 17mm+. manual focus seems okay. anyway, i'm not going to use Live View so often, to me it's still okay, i can use manual focus if i need live view mode. and i also expected this kind of problem may happen for a 3rd party lens on a Nikon SLR.

Yap, the previous version of 17-50 tamron has this problem also with the D90

Hi everyone using D90.
Do you know if there is still the error issue on the current stock of D90 selling at the shops?
I planning to get one tonight.

Yes, LV does add to shutter count. Why? Because to activate live view, the shutter curtain have to open. And that action is considered opening the shutter. This is the only accurate way to measure the actual number of times the shutter curtain is opened.

I read someone say that using RAW+JPEG increases the shutter count by 2 each time a shot is taken (read this from a D90 BnS). This is bull excrement. When RAW + JPEG is used, and a shot taken, the shutter count only goes up by 1.

Hope this helps.

If you are talking about the FEE error, it is a simple case of not very good contact between the lens and the body. This usually happens in a new body where the contacts are a little new and stiff. Mounting and unmounting a lens a few times will solve the problem.

This problem also occurs when you are using an older AF-D lens and you did not lock the aperture ring to the smallest aperture.

And lastly. the error also appears when you did not mount your lens properly to the body, or the lens is a manual lens (AiS, Ai, etc...)

I see, but realised that too late :bsmilie:
my shutter count is whopping 20k when i checked only after 6 months
well, can't help it coz my wife like to use the LV :bsmilie:

and yes, shooting raw+jpeg is only count as 1. tried and tested. It's total bullshit for those ppl stating as 2 count. probably they didn't realised LV count as well..

Either that or they are trying to smoke newbie potential buyers about their shutter count.

Anyway, I've only used LV twice for testing purposes. Not my cup of tea. I have been in love with OVF since film days. I guess I am just stubborn.

My friend got it 2 months back. Send back to NSC. They service it for free.
He using the 18-105mm VR kit lens. He don't remember the error code number.

Anyone experience this issue?

The other issue I heard of was a batch of D90s had some problem with the power circuit. NSC will replace the power control circuit board FOC.

Guess I gonna stop playing around with the LV.
Btw, does the using of "Depth-of-field preview button" consider opening the shutter? :dunno:

In DSLR, aperture is usually kept quite big when the mirror is down. This enable the view through the OVF to be nice and bright. At the moment the shutter is pressed down fully, the aperture closes to the selected aperture and the shutter opens and the picture is taken.

DoF button only forces the aperture to close to the A value selected, you still see the effect in the OVF, meaning mirror never flip up and the shutter curtain never opened. But the view in the OVF may get darker when the aperture selected is a lot smaller.

So no, the shutter count do not jump when you use DoF preview.

Thanks for the explanation. :)

The focusing speed is way too slow in LV mode. So unless I need to shoot very high or low, I never want to use the LV.

Anyway, I am getting old and developing presbyopia, thus looking at the screen is already not very comfortable now :dunno:
