Why bought 2nd set? For backup? ;p

I agreed. D90 feels good. My 4 year old daughter start to be my model to test out. :bsmilie:
The Auto ISO is good. But at darker area, we might need to use lower iso with a tripod for lower noise possible. The video is excellent. It's better than my previous own Sony Handycam SR45. Eventhough lighter than D700 but still consider solid build in my hand.
The slight down is shooting video under flourescent light, video will flicker (24fps). And we might need external flash if we shooting at nearer object horizontally (say camera on the floor level. Sometime, our 18-105mm will block the flash and shadow of the len appear on the photo.

with the lens hood on? i never experienced flash shadow with lens hood off... which focal length you used when you got the flash shadow? was it on 18mm?

I am also a D90 user and loving it. I also noticed the video flickering and found out that it is due to the camera constantly adjusting exposure. The way to stop the flickering is to lock the exposure by using the AE-L/AF-L button.

The shadow appears when using the built-in flash with the 18-105 kit lens with the bayonet hood on at the widest setting (18mm) I believe, because that is what I experienced. Removing the hood should solve the issue. I use the SB-900 now, so it's not an issue when I have the bayonet hood on the lens.

btw, what do you all use to edit the video? Does it come with any video editing software?

Yes, with the hood on. If shoot at horizontal to the subject only on floor level at either 18mm or 105mm. With hood off, i will try again. haha

Since the video in avi format, you can use the window movie maker that comes with window xp for free. Try out and after some editing, you will know which advance video editor tools that suit u.

Oh, its for my wife actually. so that we can go take pic together.
wanted to upgrade to d300 but noticed that there r not much diff to d90.
So to lower my cost, i got d90.
moreover we can interchange our eqpt in terms of grip etc..

Hi guys, I am a new D90 users too. Bought it about a few months back and i'm loving it. Planning to get a Tamron SP 90mm f2.8 macro soon.

people, what tripod and ballhead are you using?

I am planning to get a D90 and trying to find out abt the 'experience curve'.

> Software - get use Windows movie maker to import video and music
> Camera handholding and focusing - to get use of
> Video Filming - I guess this is where the need for a script to start

Am i missing other things?

A thousand apologies, I didn't have my D90 in front of me when I replied. I just tested the video taking function (with a 35mm f1.8 DX), and yes, it does have some flickering, whether AE Lock (hold) was on or not. Where the AE Lock (hold) helps is to keep the exposure constant when taking videos. Can tell I don't use the video function very much heh.

Well the video function is a good to have feature for the D90. I suppose as technology evolves, movie taking on DSLRs would approach what's already available in PnS today.

Go to the MENU, then go under CUSTOM SETTING #F4 set to AE Lock (hold).

Next still under CUSTOM SETTING go to #C2 set it to a longer duration maybe about 30mins.

Hi, thank you for the info. I have set to lock the AE for 1 min. First i point at brighter stable light and lock. Then when i take video with that exposure, the video flickering greatly reduced. Go try it. And feedback. hehe

Hi everyone. So happy that there is a forum on D90 kit. Just got mine last week. Before getting the camera, did my research on the price but last minute, the saleperson asked me to get this "vitacon Ultra Slim 1mm UV filter" and charged me $190 for it. I told him I don't want to get it first because not sure of the price but he insisted that it is essential to protect my lens.

When I bought it back, I started to check on the filter and so far, the answer I got it not necessary to invest in such an expensive filter since my lens is just a kit lens. Is my conclusion correct? If yes, I really want to go back to the shop and demand a refund or exchange to something else (am thinking of getting the 50mm f1.8 prime lens).

Any advise......

And btw, got the "Stein Zeiser" bag as the freebie. Is that the "normal" freebie given to others? I thought it should be Nikon bag? Which will be better? Just don wan to be cheated by the shop.....

just upgrade from D40 to D90. bought a D90 2nd hand. Yet to really test out the camera as i only have Sigma 30mm lens now. After i get my 18-200mm, iwill go out for more shoot.

Hw much u pay for ur D90 Kit? The UV filter is useful to protect the lens. Brand like Hoya is good enough to protect it. But if possible exchange ur $190 filter with lens + Hoya filter which is more useful.

Btw the kit len is a good lens. As for the freebies, it depends on the shop. I got the Nikon orignal bag as freebies.

Hi there. Thanks for the advise. I think I will go back to the shop and ask for a replacement. Feel being cheated. Btw, got the camera for $1688 with 8GB card and bag. That should be the price now right? Went to few shops (in Funan) but most of them don't have the stock.

No problem. ;)

ISO Value:

Lo 0.3 = ~ISO 160
Lo 0.7 = ~ISO 125
Lo 1.0 = ~ISO 100

--

Hi 0.3 = ~ISO 4000
Hi 0.7 = ~ISO 5000
Hi 1.0 = ~ISO 6400

They are labeled as Hi/Lo is because it is not finely calibrated. They are only approximate values.

Hi All,
Got my D90 kit with 18-105 lens last week as a Father's Day present from my wife. Just love this new toy. Owned and used Nikon film cameras for donkey years. In fact still holding on to my trusty FA+MD15 and some lenses. But this D90 is just great! Still learning the functions but one shortfall is can't use my "hammerhead" flash as D90 don't have a flash cable connector. Only can use hotshoe contact type. Tried using my old Metz flash set at manual and it works. Only need to try out various aperture for best results. Maybe should get the SB600 but i'm in no hurry. What i would love to get is the battery grip, looks good and comfortable. Was contemplating the 3rd pary Travor brand actually, but i'm just reading up users' comments.
Can't wait to start shooting again over the weekend. Cheers all...;)

Hi people,
i just got my D90 kit 18-105 today. a question... is there a AA battery kit that can be placed into the rechargeable batt slot? I only got one rechargeable batt so sometimes I may need to use AA just in case that one goes flat.

Appreciate if you guys could guide me through this.

Many Thanx!! :)

To my knowledge(correct me if I am wrong), you can only use the AA battery if you have Nikon MB-D80 battery grip(I am not sure about 3rd battery grip).
